Post by gennss »

Since I find the neo-geo forums a little intimidating, i wanted ot know.. the debug bios is the only thing you need to play mvs games on aes system? or do i need some sort of cartridge passthrough?

No the BIOS just selects what version of the game you're going to play. It's a chip that is on the motherboard of the MVS/AES systems. If you want to use an MVS cart on a Home system, you need a converter. !ARCADE! used to make them but I dont know if they're still around.

And about being intimidated by the Neo-Geo.com boards, don't worry about them. They're just a bunch of elitist pricks. I'd say only about 50 to 75% of the users there even HAVE a Neo-Geo. Most of them are there for the drama, which is where the pricks come in.

Most likely 20-35% :P Have you seen the help topics on Neogeo.com?!

The problem with playing MVS carts on an AES system is the fact that they physically won't fit. The MVS carts are physically larger on one side.

Short of physically modifying the system itself you're going to need a passthrough adapter.

Like the others have said the bios isn't the real issue for playing MVS on an AES, if you must play MVS on a home system you have a few options, the older phantom 1's come up on ebay and on forums for time to time.

The quickest but far from cheapest option is this. http://www.neostore.com/ under accessories is the super MVS converter 2 which will set you back $249 usd. Which if you already have a AES is your best option. That said given the AES cost around $200, it might behoove you to look into buying actual MVS arcade cab as many many good cabs can be had for that cost, or look into consolizing/superguning a mvs mother board instead if money is on concern for far less cash.

The bios that msot people talk of in mods for both AES and MVS is the unibios which allows you too play the games in various states(ie unlocking AES modes on mvs games, practice, time attack, etc.) as has a action replay/gameshark cheat built in. The unibios is really easy to install in most MVS boards, but somewhat or a pain for AES due to the fact they are hard soldered.

I have and love my debug bios (it was already in my system) while not as full featured it is half as much and should be easier to install. you would need a converter for MVS games (you think aes carts are huge in an aes wait till you see your aes with a converter and mvs cart in it!) converters go for 100-200 sometimes cheap via ebay, one just went for a nice price recently can't rember though

I like to buy conversions myself-its like having an aes cart (packaging wise) and without a converter. Still more expensive though and you kill an original game or two in the process
