Re: Best rpgs that never made it here
I live in Europe. Should I even get started? Even in the PS2 era there were RPGs that didn't make it over here.

Add Tales of Phantasia & Bahamut Lagoon for the SNES to the list, real shame neither were released over here - at least we can play them now through translation patches.
Also, the Saturn has loads of great SRPGs never released over here - Wachenroder being the most notable, plus the often overlooked Terra Phantastica and the huge Langrisser collection (all 5 Langrisser games, only the first was released in the US as Warsong for the Genesis).

I would be great if saturn games were available on the virtual console and all the great import rpgs & srpgs were translated!
Re: Best rpgs that never made it here
Sakura Taisen, its a pain hte *** to try to play them with a paper translation list. Wish they were translated already so i can just play.

^These are what I was thinking. It's a shame we didn't get more SRPGs here. Plus Far East of Eden and Terranigma never made it to the US either.Bootaaay wrote:Add Tales of Phantasia & Bahamut Lagoon for the SNES to the list, real shame neither were released over here - at least we can play them now through translation patches.

Tales of Phantasia did make it here on the GBA, although the voice sound quality wasn't as good as on the SNES cart.

I think there were 7 or 8 El Dorado RPG games released for the Dreamcast by Capcom, and not a single one made it over to other countries.

Shining Force 3: Scenario 2 and 3 pissed me off the most. Playing part of a game without a chance of playing the rest of it really stinks. At least Scenario 2 is almost completely translated by fans and Scenario 3 is also underway.
Terranigma is an amazing game too. What kills me about this one is that it was already released in English in Europe, but we couldn't get the damned game in the states. I loved Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, and I wish I wouldn't have had to wait about 6 years before I got play this game.
Some other games that I was able to play through fan translations and kicked ass include:
Star Ocean (remake coming for PSP though)
Dragon Quest 5 (coming soon to a DS near you)
Dragon Quest 6 (ditto)
Bahamut Lagoon
Seiken Densetsu 3

It's odd that Suito Homu (Sweet Home) hasn't been mentioned
A late 80's RPG by capcom based on a movie, it's a pretty cool game that does away with many genre cliches especially for the time:
*If a player dies, he/she is dead for the rest of the game
*There is only a number of healing items, once they're gone they don't come back
*No medieval setting!
*No towns
*No item shops
*The story is a mystery that has to be solved by looking at notes around the house, a diary, corpses and secret messages in paintings
*Enemies are ghosts, not monsters!
*Every character has an item that overcomes certain obstacles
*There are quick time events
*Sometimes it really does scare you
*Mature themes, blood and gore everywhere
This is one of my favorite games and probably was the last RPG I finished, there was a pretty kickass translation out there so you don't have any excuse not to play it.
