So I finally got around to paying my copy of Soul Reaver. I love it so far, but I'm noticing some heavy framerate dips in certain parts of the game. I know this game got great reviews, and the ones I read did not mention this. Anyone know if this game is supposed to be a bit framey?
By the way, I'm using a PS2 to play this so I don't know if that matters or not.
Soul Reaver PS1... framerate issues normal in this version?

framerate is kinda subjective, but I suggest the Dreamcast version. It's MUCH better, visually.

I was gonna say the exact same thing. I found out about the game through a friend who had it for PS and I have loved it ever since, I got the DC version in about 2003 and I must say that the whole game is far better looking than the PS version.Mozgus wrote:framerate is kinda subjective, but I suggest the Dreamcast version. Re: Soul Reaver PS1... framerate issues normal in this version?
Well I watched some DC version clips on Youtube (yours Mozgus actually), and the framerate is a world of difference. On the PS version, it slows way down when transitioning between the two realms and takes almost five seconds longer. Also, battling enemies looks way smoother on the DC version.
On the other hand, I watched some of this guy's videos of the PSX version...
His seems to be running way smoother than mine. I wonder if there's an issue with my PS2. I have been playing on my wife's original fat model, so maybe I need to dig out my PS1 or hook up the slim PS2 instead.

Those clips I posted weren't even realtime footage. They were clips encoded to MPEG or whatever. So the real game actually runs between 30-60fps.Flak Beard wrote:Well I watched some DC version clips on Youtube (yours Mozgus actually), and the framerate is a world of difference. I never had any real frame rate issues with mine on the ps. But what everyone else is saying is true. The DC version is much prettier.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
