favorite platformers

Post by disorderlyvision »

with the rash of platformer topics lately, i figured i would start one too. what are you favorite platformers?

some of mine are:
mario 1 and 3 (2 was ok, but no my favorite)
super mario world
super mario all stars (has the real mario 2 on it called the lost levels)
sonic 1 & 2
rocket knight adventures
quackshot
boogerman
epic mickey
kid icarus
rayman
i-ninja
jak and daxter the precursor legacy
crash bandicoot warped

thats all i could think of off the top of my head. i have the other jak and daxter games but havent played them yet, same with ratchet and clank, so i cant say how good they are yet.

Sonic 2
Sonic CD

Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic Rush
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Bros 3
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Land 3
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers

There's other ones I've enjoyed, but these are the ones I go back to most.
Sorry it's predictable Sonic & Mario :)

Kirby's Adventure
Kirby's Canvas Curse
SMW2: Yoshi's Island
Sonic Rush (Rush Adventure ties with it too)
Astal
Wario Land

You're safe with pretty much anything with Kirby, Mario and Sonic.

I really like how the Sonic games flowed. It becomes almost meditative. I would say Ristar is one of the best 2D platformers I have played. I think Jak and Daxter is the best 3d platformer. I also enjoy the Crash the Bandicoot trilogy and the Spyro trilogy on the Playstation. I really like the Wario Land games and the Mario games aren't bad either.

OMG how could i forget the first 2 kirby games on the game boy and canvas curse. those were great games though in my opinion the modern games are plauged with too many powers (meaning over half off them are useless or copies of others) and the level design is not as good as it used to be

The titles mentioned are all prett good. Sonic and Mario defined the genre. I have always been a big castlevanIa and metroid fan. Astal is great too. Some others I dig: hagane, shinobi 3, rolling thunder 3, nes ninja gaiden games, gunstar heroes.

Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 are my favourites, not too hard but still a challenge, excellent graphics, excellent sound and enjoyable. Thats all i need from a game.

not too hard? on the other hand I consider them the hardest highly commer5cial platform games (only one that tops them is megaman). mario and sonic are much easier
