Shmups on PS3

Post by env963 »

I sometimes wonder if i chose the right system when I picked up the PS3. At least for shmups anyways, every time i turn around the XBOX 360 is always getting something I wish I had! Currently have 1942, Everyday shooter, StardustHD. Is there any import shmups that rock on the ps3 that i could get that im not aware of?

Nope, I believe you have them covered. I could be wrong, but every time load up the SHMUP forums, it seems another shooter arrives on the 360. Shoot 'em ups and PS3's don't mix. Unless you have a PS2 b/c Japanese PS3, because then you could get all the PS2 shoot 'em ups (and there are plenty).

You mentioned a very good point- even though domestic PS3s are current gen import friendly, they won't play import PS2 games. It's an extreme nuisance. Why allow imports on the current stuff and keep a lid on the dead system?

So I'm actually thinking about giving in and buying a Japanese PS2, as I'm tired of the swap magic business.

Raiden III is also available in the US, and ESPGaluda is excellent as well.

It's 2010! lol

As far as I know, there isnt jack for shmups on my ps3...or is there. Anyone?

(Everyday shooter is kind of lame, i dont know what all the hype was over...i dont even play that game. Soldner X - to hard! Dont care for that game either. Stardust is good, ive beaten it. )

There's one shmup you don't have on the PS3, Soldner-X. It's not terribly good, but it's another shmup out there. It seems, though, that most of the devs got enticed to the 360, so that's where they all are coming out on. Of course, then you need an import 360 to really enjoy them all.

If you wanna play shmups on the PS3, get a Japanese PSN account, a Japanese PSN card, and then go crazy on some PS1 Classics. Tons of PS1 Shmups there.

And I loved Everyday Shooter. I loved how each stage has it's own unique gameplay mechanic - it's like a dozen shmups in one package.
