Nintendo would still be goody goody and there would be no video game rating system.

without mortal kombat everythign would be diff
Eh, I don't quite agree. While Mortal Kombat was the target of a lot of flak, it was neither the first to be ridiculed, or the last. In fact, they edited the first one considerably to try to stay "goody goody," as they would do with many games. But Mortal Kombat was only part of the greater whole, with titles like Night Trap and Doom also catching lots of heat. Still, it is the one given as the specific example of why Lieberman had senate hearings...though deep down I suspect that would have occurred anyways. Just be glad they didn't get their hands on WeaponLord.
I think Nintendo would have caved in a bit eventually -- at least if they like money -- which they do.
I also think that there would be a rating system as games became even more realistic and violent.
I think slapping some of the heavy ratings on some of those early games were stupid, but now, it makes sense.

MK was prob most influencial in that respect, but... some other would have taken the place if things had been diff. It does seem appropriate to say that Nintendo learned they lesson from MK1, which really pissed me (and many others) off at the time!
Yes, doom made a splash... but nowhere near the level of the MK series.
And obviously, MK was not the first to piss off parents. I remember my mom saying "I wish you would just play the racing game" everytime I asked for quarters to play N.A.R.C. at our local Little Ceaser.
also, I cant even describe my excitement and my friend's mother's horror the first time we both saw his copy of Wolfenstein 3D in all of its glory. Shit... that was even PC-13... remember?

Take one look at my avatar and you know it comes from that disturbed and violent game. His name is Dr. Spike...we're both doctors of different sorts.

Except you focus in music and him in drugs. Of course, it could be psychadelic music, I don't know, I've never heard it...you got any of your work on the net, Doc?Doctor Fugue wrote:nateup2 wrote:I remember my mom saying "I wish you would just play the racing game" everytime I asked for quarters to play N.A.R.C.
Thumbs up for mentioning NARC. It went a little under the radar, but man that was some awesome stuff...having drug addicts fire leg-sized heroin-filled needles at you is just plain cool. And such an early violent game! 1988, I believe.

Still, MK was no Death Race.

I'll play anything that was written at least 120 years ago.Ack wrote:Except you focus in music and him in drugs. Of course, it could be psychadelic music, I don't know, I've never heard it...you got any of your work on the net, Doc?
I'm slowly removing my presence on the net, since I don't need or want advertising anymore. Finally I have said bye bye to Facebook and MySpace!
So, the only place left is my own crappy webpage...http://www.doctorfugue.com...I think there's a few tracks taken from live concerts in LA and Vancouver. It's on some terrible player on the contents page. Man I hate the internet.
Anyway, I'll probably take that down soon too, at least the recordings. Unlike almost every other musician, I believe recordings have killed music and I refuse to support them anymore. My fight against recordings will continue.
Indeed. Bach was The Man.ZenLogikos wrote:Classical. Bach.
Let me know when your CD is ready!
My CD is ready, as of last week. Currently I have no plans to release it or make it available in any form. I should really have that website updated. Why did I make something I won't be releasing? Long story. I know many will wonder why I hate recordings, but I've already gone too far off topic....sorry. Thanks for the interest!
Okay, here's the short(ish) version. Again, sorry for being off topic. Recordings have had the opposite affect on "classical" music when compared to pop and rock. [UGH...I wrote a huge reply here and deleted it all...I'll make a new thread sometime later if someone wants to discuss it]
