What is your Transcendent Geek Moment?
What is that one moment in your life that proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that you were in fact, a Geek?
For me it was last year when I found some old Mega Drive games, but couldn't find my Genesis to Mega Drive converter. I placed a bid on ebay for the only auction that was going on at that time, but I got distracted and got snipped at the last possible second and lost the auction.
Determined to play those Mega Drive games, I called the closest vintage video game store to see if they had one. The employee told me that they didn't have a converter, but they did have a Mega Drive they would sell me for $25. The next thing I knew I was in the car headed to the game store.
While that doesn't sound too hardcore on the surface, consider this. The store was in Jacksonville, FL. I live in South Carolina. So after a nice 3 hour drive I tossed down my $25 and claimed my very own Mega Drive. After a brief moment of celebration I got back into my car and drove the 3 hours home.
From that moment on, no matter what i did in life I would always be known as a Geek (and I'm proud!).
so what are some of your stories?

Great thread. You should take pride in that. You did what you had to do.
I like F-Zero GX
I bought a component cable last week for 60 $.
Now I need to buy a US gamecube and US F-zero.
Gamecubes are pretty cheap, but I'm still searching for somebody that has actual shipping charges instead of some huge rounded figure. It will happen. And then I'll need a wavebird and a memory card and a power converter, 110-200 volts and then I will be able to play F-Zero GX in 480p, wide screen mode on my 50". It shall be a glorious geek moment.
A friend just called and asked: "Is this the ps3-helpdesk?" He wanted some advice about a good steering wheel for the ps3
Another geek moment, responding to a thread like this and laughing about it. Can;t wait to hear other stories. Everyone should respond even those (too proud) who refuse to admit it. Everyone registered to any gaming forum is automatically a geek.

I went to a convention dressed as a shyguy. In fact I wrote the story in a different thread about what happened during the experience, though that was a while ago...I'll rewrite it if you guys ask.
I also realized I was pretty geeky when I told a friend how many Super Nintendo games I owned, and he replied with "That's more than my entire collection."
Good times.

I know that I'm a geek about games. And I'm reminded by my girlfriend everytime I get excited about a new thrift store find.
I'm like:
"I can't believe I just found Super Mario RPG for 2 bucks! wow thats awesome, seriously."
and she's all:
"Yeah....that's great....just no more systems ok. You've already got enough of those honey and we don't have any more room in the house."
no defining moment....just an everyday occurance.

I like threads like this..
I had a moment last week that I was even surprised of myself. I was at a thrift store and I got a Atari 2600 Jr. boxed and before I even paid for it I busted out my iphone and updated my MySQL database to add the 2600 jr. as one of my owned consoles.

I've done Justice League Unlimited marathons, as well as Buffy/Angel marathons.Pullmyfinger wrote:Not really gaming related, but geeky enough, I watched the complete Gargoyles series (75+ episodes) in 5 days and Justice League and Justice League Unlimited (80+ episodes) in about a week
I have Gargoyles on DVD, haven't watched them all yet though

but look at the bright side, at least you have a girlfriend that's willing to put up with your geekdom.
