I just found my 450th NES Game.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I just found my 450th NES Game.

Post by onemanfilmcrew »

I just picked up my 450th NES game while in Philly. I'm kind of a collecting purist because i don't buy domestic stuff online (just the occasional import), so my entire NES collection has been found in the "wild" (flea markets, goodwill, garage sales, etc). My current total count is

450 carts
264 boxes
162 instruction manuals

I've been at this for something like 7 years. Ultimately it's my goal to find all of the original NES carts in the wild. Not sure exactly if that's even possible, but we'll see.

oh, and what was game number 450? A complete copy of Tengen Tetris. Price? $35.

The real question now is...what are you missing? Have you got a list of stuff you've got and don't have yet?

I have my list of missing games printed out and it travels with me everywhere i go. Every time I go to a stand at the flea market that has games I look like i'm grocery shopping because i have a 4 page list. And I have a list of what I do have sitting with my collection.

Wow, old school. Makes my ebay purchases seem like cheating.

Congrats to you my friend.

Well, i wouldn't say that ebay is cheating. Here is a video game analogy I think everyone will understand.

In an RPG you have two choices. You can spend hours upon hours fighting throngs of monsters in order to get gold/gil/mesta, then you go to the store and buy expensive gear. Or you can go roaming through a dark dungeon in the hopes of finding that expensive gear for free.

Same thing with game collecting. I can either work a 9-5 job and pay an expensive price on ebay, or i can rummage through flea markets in the hopes of finding those games for next to nothing.

I'm not naive though, I know full well that while I might be able to find all the carts in the wild, finding the boxes and manuals is going to be totally impossible. once i get close to getting all the carts I'll start looking on ebay and other places for those.

Nice work...got pictures of what nearly 500 NES games look like, sounds awesome!

Now the real work begins!! NES should be a little easier than many systems as it was SOOO popular the games are everywhere. I have something like 250 Sega Genesis games and its getting really tough to find/justify the price of the ones I need. Now when I find a huge lot or set at a garage sale or shop I have half of them. Then there are the games like "monopoly" or "my little Pony" that I just won't pay anymore that a dollar for.
