Together Retro: Solar Jetman

Post by racketboy »

I'm a little nervous about the learning curve/difficulty of this one, but it's come heavily recommended to me by more than one person.
Let see how everyone likes it...

Neat, I'm a big fan of gravitar. So I'll give this one a try right now.

This is a cool game (at least I remember it being so), my cousin had an NES that I played over a decade ago when I was a wee lad, and the two games I remember were this and American Gladiators. Then again, it might be nostalgia that makes me think this was good. Who knows.

This is indeed pretty cool. Took me a while to figure out what was going on, then I got through level 1 pretty easy. Level 2 is big! I should have bought the automapper.

Flight is pretty easy until you pick up an item, then it gets fun. I found the best thing to do was to make sure I was going the direction I wanted to go when I dropped shields and grabbed an object. That way inertia's in my favor.

Kept me entertained for a good hour, but it's getting late. I'll come back to this one for sure though.

When I was a kid, my mom got her little brother (who is my age, oddly enough), a copy of Solar Jetman for Christmas. I couldn't get the hang of it at all back then, but loved watching him play it. Coincidentally, a few weeks ago I got the urge to figure out the somewhat difficult controls and found it to be amazingly easy to control. Then I switched from playing it on GBA to playing it on PSP and realized I'd been running at about 75-80% speed... Still enjoy it, and am now looking forward to my first Together Retro with you guys!

First Solar Jetman OCRemix ever. It's amazing. Listened to it 5 times today. Oddly enough, it's remixing a track in the game I never even heard before. Might be from one of the later planets or something.

So far so good...yeah, I'm liking it. I listened to their demo of it and it sounded like good stuff so I'm gonna download it to hear the full track.

Oh my god, he says he's working on a whole album of SJ remixes like this, including a medley track! I'd buy that shit for sure. If only SJ could get a remake with the attention to detail that Bionic Commando just got, and with music this good thrown in.

Also, apparently this remix is of World 10 - Shammy Gen. I never got past the 4th planet, despite how much I love the game.

Ok, downloaded it, listening to it a second time. The full version is great, some of the effects around the 4:20 mark are really cool! And at 4:50, that was awesome! Favorite moment, followed closely by the 2:00 mark. Seriously good stuff.
