Capcom continues their trend of stupid achivements

Post by Gamerforlife »

Apparently, there's an achievement in Mega Man 9 that requires players to beat the game five times in one day. WTF!?

Oh right, this is from the same dumb company that wanted players to play Dead Rising's survivor mode for 14 hours straight without saving to get the 7 day survivor achievement. Also, the same dumb company that wiped out your save data in Steel Battalion if you died without ejecting.

Sometimes I think Capcom is subtlety mocking its fans, because I can't think of any other reason for stupid stuff like this. Apparently, Capcom thinks all of their fans have no life and can sit around beating a game five times in a row in a single day, or playing a survival mode for 14 hours straight without saving.

Anyway, here's the whole list:

Some of them are kind of cool actually, but this Gamer's Day achievement is another in the line of dumb achievements I've been seeing in all of Capcom's games lately. I know some of you don't care at all about achievements and that's fine. I respect that, but some of us enjoy those extra challenges, but stuff like this is just stupid.

Wow...I agree, that's a rather bizarre and...disturbing achievement. Why would Capcom think someone would want to sit and beat the same game five times in a row in a 24 hour period?

Of course, that also raises the question...is it possible to set back the 360's clock after beating it so the game thinks its within a 24 hour period?

While the 5-in-one-day achievement is pretty dumb, I think the rest are actually pretty rad. I'd rather it be stuff like this than "beat this level" "beat this level" "complete any level" etc. They should be goals, not milestones.

Personally I don't mind some of them, like kill one of every enemy type, or kill 1000 enemies. I always thought those were cool achievements. Getting through a Mega Man without dying and without killing many enemies is gonna be a doozy, though...

...you know, I just realized that those are the images of all 8 master robots...they'd only released shots of 3 of them like...what, yesterday?

Personally, I like it. Every achievement should be next to impossible to beat, otherwise you would just be bragging that you can breathe. I mean you don't have to do it but if you did get it, you would be one in a select few.

The Steel Battalion move sounds pretty harsh, but it makes for a whole other level of simulation that had never been done before. Trust me, after a few times youll know when to eject.

I just generally disagree with the "Next to impossible to beat", but I agree with the sentiment that achievements should be (mostly) hard, instead of (as said by someone) milestones (although maybe they could have 50% of the achievements for each game be milestones and not actually count for much, with the other half being stuff that would extend the replayability of the game).

I have little experience with achievements as I don't have a 360, so I can't give examples of my preference. But for example, I often try to get S ranks in those games that have that stuff and it's often rewarding (Advance Wars campaign for example, which is a good example of this stuff as when you finish the game they scroll the score you got on each mission).

But there is a big difference between being hard and being next to impossible, and regardless of difficulty, this particular sort of encouragement of gluing yourself to the screen I am strongly against. It's unhealthy to play that much in a row.

I think it's really cool list of achievements. Mega Man has always been an extremely tough game but it always provide a since of accomplishment doing what are usually little things in other games (i.e. killing a boss or playing through without dying or using a continue). The achievements for me would be proof to other people that you actually did something incredible and deserves recognition. I do think it's funny that just beating the game gives you a mere 5 points.

That's a pretty demanding set of achievements. At least it'll give the game a ton of replay value for the achievement hunters like myself. Although, some of those might be beyond my skill.

I'm just glad they didn't give the game odd point numbers like Commando 3, 1942 and Super Puzzle Fighter. I'm OCD like that.
