Nintendo 64 fighters

Hey guys, I know the N64 wasn't known for having a lot of fighters, but it did get a handful. Killer Instinct: Gold, Dark Rift, Mace: The Dark Ages, Deadly Arts, Custom Robo... Were there any that really went above and beyond on the console?

a lot of people seem to favor flying dragon and fighters destiny 1 and 2,not sure if they went above and beyond though.

Custom Robo was excellent. It's one of my favorite N64 games and much better than the Gamecube or DS versions. I haven't played Custom Robo V2, but supposedly it's the better of the two. If you've played either of crappy games that made it into English the language barrier isn't a problem at all. Even without experience it wouldn't take long to get the hang of things.

The 2d Flying Dragon is the best traditional fighter you are going to find on the system. The 3d version is only soso, and Dark Rift is mostly rubbish.

I gotta agree the 2d mode in flying dragon is a lot of fun. Fighters Destiny is also not bad it´s not the best fighter out there but it´s interesting enough.

Ok, so I spent about three hours traversing Wikipedia, YouTube, and the internet at large, and compiled a list of N64 fighting games. There are three that I'll be putting at the end of the list that I'm not sure on, but let me know if I missed something. I really appreciate it!

Wasn't there a Mortal Kombat Gold? I could be wrong, it also could be the one you have listed as Mortal Kombat trilogy

You might be thinking of Killer Instinct Gold, which was a terribly crippled version of KI2.

Fighters Destiny is a really good fighter on the N64, compared to other N64 fighters. I like how it really pushed you to play technically, and punished you heavily for just button bashing. It had a slower pace than most tradition/arcade fighters, which gave bouts a much more tactical fair. IMO it's the closest a fighting game has ever gotten to real martial arts.

Mortal Kombat Gold is the Dreamcast exclusive update to Mortal Kombat 4.

It was only a Japanese release (right?); are you just going for American releases?

Anyway, about half of Neon Genesis Evangelion is a crappy pseudo-3D fighting game (really it takes place on a 2D plane), and the other half of the missions have button-mashing or timed-event or some other kind of mechanic (ie., definitely not fighting).

I believe it is one-player only. Maybe that alone means it isn't a fighting game. Are there any fighting games that are one player? My brain is dead and can't think of any.

On a side note, NGE is amazingly faithful to the show and features some pretty great graphics and sound for what the N64 could do. Generally a bad game, though. Certainly meant for fans of the anime.
