I have never played this game. I just bought it on eBay for $4, and I was wondering your opinions on it.
I'm sure it won't be terrible since it's Treasure and all, but I know nothing about this game aside from what I've read on a few review sites.

I'm in the same boat. In fact, I just bought a copy on Ebay as well. I've played the rom and like the art style a lot (but it's Treasure so that's a given) but I have no idea how to play it. My copy is coming with instructions so hopefully that will shed some light. I'll post more when I've gotten it.
Ok guys, as a man who used to own Mischief Makers, let me say this...
PLAY IT. TRUST ME.
To be completely honest, I always felt it was a bit cutesy, so I actually had a lot of problems playing it in front of friends and family. The main character saying "Shake shake" in her cute little voice and the little purple hearts and bright colors didn't exactly make me feel masculine when spending time with this game. But I still kept coming back. Why? Because it was unique, it was fun, and I found it challenging. The game's probably one of the best on the N64, as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know where my copy of Mischief Makers went, sadly, but I do miss it. I wish I had a Nintendo 64 and it plugged up right now, actually...

Yeah, I know. It's partly because the game wants you to collect the yellow crystals you'll see floating around. There's the ending, and then the correct ending where they explain stuff...ultimately, I don't remember the story being very deep anyway, and it feels like it starts kinda slowly, but you'll soon start finding levels that are a bit challenging. The learning curve is pretty good, if memory serves.

I love Mischief Makers, though I never did manage to get the game's perfect ending. It's one of Treasure's more underrated titles I think. In fact, of all the Treasure games I've played, I had the most fun with Mischief Makers. It's just one of my all time favorite platform action games.
There's lots of variety in what you have to do in each stage so the gameplay never gets stale. Grabbing enemies and objects is a great gameplay mechanic that gets used in different ways. It also has some of the BEST bosses Treasure has ever come up with. Seriously, some of them are REALLY awesome. The Marina character is definitely cute, and that never bothered me. She's got a certain charm and as gamers we sometimes have to look past cutesy exteriors to discover some truly great games.
I never did make much sense of the story either, but I didn't care. The game was fun and challenging and full of surprises. Stories rarely make sense in Treasure games anyway. As a fan of platform games, Mischief Makers and Conker's Bad Fur Day are two of the reasons I never regretted buying an N64
