Gradius V

Post by dsheinem »

So I've been wanting to play this forever but not pay $50 or more on eBay. Today I finally found a complete copy at a local Gamestop for $13.50 after my EDGE discount! Anything I should know in advance before giving it a run?

Also, I've seen two used copies of R-Type final in the area for $10 each, if anyone wants me to pick one up...

It'll cost me $9 plus shipping to buy it and get it to you - it's used (with case and maybe a manual), so it's condition would be subject to Gamestop's used game acceptance standards (which can be hit and miss). It seems to run around $25-30+ on ebay right now.

Gradius V is amazing. Enjoy!

R-type Final has some haters, but I really dig it.

Be prepared for Gradius V to hand your butt to you the first time through. It was developed by Treasure, so it's totally crazygonuts.

And I also recommend you pick up R-Type Final if you don't have it already. It's a thing of beauty.

I guess I am one of those R-Type Final hater that someone mentioned earlier. It's a fun game no doubt, but as a finale to one of the greatest shmups series, it is a total let down. It's pacing is way too slow. There are some great stages and trying to collect all 101 ships can be fun, but overall, the game is kinda bland. However, I would recommend picking it up if you haven't already done so. There needs to be more shmups love out there.

Yeah, I haven't had much time to play yet. When I did give it a go, I didn't make it past level 1 without using a credit and didn't make it past the boss rush on level 2 without dying altogether. I'll have time to give it a better run through today.

I will say that it keeps that classic Gradius feel nicely and it is gorgeous.

The longer you play, the more credit you will get and eventually it will be free play. Anyway, you'll get better the more you play.
