So I picked up a near mint Crystalis cart with box at a local game store. I don't own an original NES, so I was playing this on my Retro Duo. After the title screen, the audio gets really low and somewhat garbled. The cart shows no signs of damage, so I'm thinking it might be a NOAC compatibility issue.
Anyone here have Crystalis and play it on Retro Duo or FC Twin? If so, do you get the same issue?
Sound issues with Crystalis on a Retro Duo/FC Twin...

I don't have an original NES or know anyone close by with one. I guess I could take it to the game store and test it out. All of their kiosks are FC Twins though.
I could always emulate seeing as I'm mainly buying carts for collection purposes. It's the only cart I've had issues with out of about fifteen or so. Eventually I think I'll get another original NES. I used to have a top-loader, but had to sell it during a financial situation.

So do you own an FC Twin or Retro Duo then? I'm wondering if I should invest in an actual NES if I'm going to start building up my cart collection even more. Have you run into any other issues with certain games?lordofduct wrote:Yes, I've had sound issues with Crystalis on several different hardware systems... and while emulating. The only time I get correct sound is with a legite NES.
The issues I most often come across is the sword power up sound effect plays in reverse or something... it just sounds weird.

I tend to fall prey to "emulator syndrome" when I use the Dreamcast. Not to mention, I'm not a fan of the d-pad on the DC controller. Collecting the actual carts seems to inspire me more to play the games. I'll eventually get around to buying an actual NES, but so far the Retro Duo has served well minus these few issues.aaron wrote:it'd almost be better to emulate on your dreamcast or something.

I agree, emulators kinda erk me... like I have to big of a selection readily available. Where as with carts, if I get frustrated and I want to change the cart I have to get up, walk all the way over to the closet, find the case for this game AND another game, swap, and start again. More work then a couple mouse clicks or moves of the thumb pad.Flak Beard wrote:I tend to fall prey to "emulator syndrome" when I use the Dreamcast. Anyways, my brother has the FC-Twin, I'll try and get my hands on it from him and test out a few more games and tell you if I get any of the same issues. But getting stuff from my brother is a huge pain in the ass, so it might take a little while.
