Could be your cables.

Definately clean out the jacks with some canned air and try again. Sometimes the RF adapters go bad, I know you can fix them, but i'd just find some AV cables online. Make sure you get the ones for the right model though. Model 1 is bigger than model two and only has mono audio.

The headphone jack on the MK1 Mega Drive allows for stereo output. I never play games on mine without headphones on.

yeah i think i'm going to clean them and see what happens.. i have 2 different sets of AV cables and both are model 2 compatible, so i dont know why this is happening. if worse comes to worse i'll just get a new genesis

I get that buzzing sound too, but only on some games and not when I play them through the 32X. Not sure what's going on.

So it's a model 2. Try it with an RF?

There was another post about this, try to find it in the Sega or Tech Help section. I think it was something to do with some bad capacitors.
