re5 looks lame.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

re5 looks lame.

Post by jackspicer »

my first disappointment was hearing that re5 was going to be like re4 and not like re0 on the cube, my second disappointment was that it was in africa, with hyper zombies. But i dont know if its old news to you but i just saw the gameplay vid of the resident evil 5 and it looks just freaken like re4, the camera angle, the way you cut open barrels, is it the same game or what? the thing i hate most is when people say "well i didnt like any of the other games but re4 was great" it makes me feel like capcom just dummed down the gameplay to make it easier for the mass market to play and telling all of the people who have been buying and playing there games in the past 'tuff shit'. it's not fair
i even bought resident evil chronicles on the wii, man that was a dissapointment. the ending was so jacked up, it wasnt survival horror it was a joke, if you've played it during the wesker re0 scene fight some russian clown somehow has a super advanced tyrant bodyguard lightyears ahead of the tyrant at the end of the original re1. I want to believe this is all a bad dream, i dont even want to play this. but i am looking forward to resident evil degeneration. But if they mess that up, the gloves are off

movie it's your last chance capcom, you owe me for that pile that is chronicles on the wii

Resident Evil 4 is definitely not a dumbed down version of the previous games...is your brain working properly? I fail to see how item fetch puzzles and running through linear fixed backgrounds while shooting at slow-moving zombies is anything remarkable. Resident Evil 4 added much to the aging formula and that's why it worked out so well for Capcom. From their perspective, why would they even consider going back to the old style of gameplay when RE4 was such a huge success? I mean, it did well enough in sales to warrant three ports, so from a business perspective, it wouldn't be wise to regress to a previous style of gameplay just to appease a few whiny 'fans' who haven't even played the game before deciding to complain about it.

If anything, you should be complaining about RE4's lack of scares and should be wondering if they plan to ditch the surprises in favor of suspense (again).

P.S. - This game is RAAAAACIIIISSSST!!

Yeah, what's dumbed down exactly? It's just a different style, and many people don't like change. I like both. But this site is dedicated to retro after all, so you can't blame people here for longing for the past.

P.S. - There's nothing racist about it. Just like RE4 wasn't racist against Spaniards, RE5 is not racist towards Africans, and should RE6 take place in China, it won't be racist against Chinese. I'm sick of seeing this accusation thrown around by myriad people online, who have no idea what racism is. The player is killing zombies. Their race and location is irrelevant.

Oh wait, the first few RE's took place in America! I guess they were racist towards Americans. Americans aren't a race(in the United States sense), which means I'm pretty sure I killed many races in those games. To escape the "racist" label, I guess I can only kill homogenized groups like a game set in America offers.

If a zombie epidemic erupts on a continent where it's majority demographic is black, I think you'll end up killing some black zombies. Call me crazy...

It wasn't meant as a personal assault on you. Your statement seemed to be made in passing, but it still seemed like a sincere opinion, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered replying. So no, it wasn't obvious to me, but again, I'm more generally addressing the issue. Sorry to misunderstand.

Don't assume so much. I beat it three times, so I'm pretty sure I "played" it. RE4 was indeed built from the ground up to be easy enough for the elementary crowd. It was also built from the ground up to be some generic action title Capcom knew would bomb if they didn't slap the RE name on it, and pitch in 3 or 4 extremely loose plot connections. The game has nothing to do with the series, let alone the survival horror genre. It has zero scares, zero suspense, zero challenge, and zero thought requirement. There is nothing to fear when you can RESPAWN like it's fucking Counter Strike.

And since when have sales equaled quality? That argument has no place here. Most chart topping games are mediocre, because most people are mediocre.

Perfectly stated.

Same is true of almost anything.

I really enjoyed RE4 and I'm planning on getting RE5. RE4 was a lot of fun to play and provided, to me at least, a lot of suspense. Turning out the lights, cranking the surround sound, and playing the game was really engaging. I thought it was a better story than the other RE games and the gameplay and camera was much better. I think it's a good formula as long as they improve and avoid rehashing the same game in a different location. I'm looking forward to RE5. That's my two cents.
