the best PC games that never made it to consoles

Post by deathclaw »

After reading your last Together Retro about Diablo II, I´ve got an idea. What about doing a list of all the great PC games that never made it to consoles? I mean games like Diablo II, Fallout, and maybe even Crysis /yes, you read it correctly/. It could be very useful, because Racketboy is almost strictly console - games site.

And..er..sorry for my English, but I´m not a native speaker

I'm a long time PC gamer and I can make a list like this (but it will probably take a long time ).

Even I know that list would be too long.

There's also the huge problem of games built around mouse/keyboard input. Porting them to consoles is like porting Wii Fit to the 360 without the balance board.

I know that some of the great PC games that were made for a console were just too hard to convert and control - Maniac Mansion on the NES comes to mind.

I think he just wants a "Games That Defined The PC" article.

exactly, but with two exceptions - there won´t be multiplatform titles /however I don´t count mac, I count only consoles/ and excluding multiplatform defining games. It would be somehow special, because PC is not a console :)

I'm a long time PC gamer and I can make a list like this (but it will probably take a long time ).

yes, I know that there are many great games for PC..but it would be better to list only the best of the best, to die for PC games rather than listing dozens of PC games..Look at all those "defining games" guides - there are roughly 15 entries in each - and that´s what I want. Yes, you can add another 15 in "honorable mentions" but the main list shouldn´t be so huge..

and it would be best to mention only the games that still matters today, in other words - are still worth of your time.. yes, ultima might have been revolutionary, but who would want to play it today?

And finally - it would be possible only with Racketboy´s permission so who knows..

Ultima 7 is still one of the best RPGs out there and is well worth your time. And the graphics aren't even that bad if you run it in high resolution.

Ahhh...sorry. It was the "all the great PC games that never made it to consoles" bit that made me think we were talking about games that should have been ported.

Why mention consoles at all? It's not like the Saturn article is called "Games That Defined the Saturn and Never Appeared on the Playstation."

"Games That Defined the PC" is much better, as you say, although it would have to be split into 5-year periods or something to be fair.

Edit: I've just read this thread again, and I still don't get it. If there is going to be a list of defining PC games that never made it to consoles, then you would have to leave out something like Dune II; which would be insane for a list of influential and defining PC games.
