another new addition to my arcade stick collection w/pics

Post by skate323k137 »

As I made my semi-weekly rounds of the local used game stores, I stumbled upon an arcade stick I never thought the owner of this particular store would sell. without further ado, my silent yet incredibly responsive DC ascii stick-

and for the hell of it, the rest of my collection:

Image
My HRAP2, modded with HAPP (yes, happ) convex buttons. Shown with the DC adapter I use quite frequently, and it adapts well for MAME

Image
My saturn sticks; an unmodified real arcade VF, and a fighting stick SS/PS, with the buttons I took out of the HRAP2. not shown, cheap saturn ascii stick.

Image
Still my favorite stick to this day, my MAS systems with competition joystick. Wired for DC, PSX/PS2, and Gamecube. Adapts well for mame too.

My next project, I'm going to gut this two player blaze PS2 stick, and put in all new sanwa or seimitsu parts, probably the latter. I've still got to find suitable controllers to solder to, the PCB in this stick is fried and doesn't map the buttons right. I'm thinking all the yellow buttons will be switched to black, the green 1p side will probably stay that color, and maybe blue for the 2P side. I'm open for suggestions :)

Very cool. I won't lie, I was expecting... less when I clicked on the link.

As far as suggestions go, I kinda like the classic candy cab colors.

You have a pretty great collection. I wish I could get my hands on good quality equipment like the stuff you have there, but sadly all I have are the mass-market type sticks.

Awesome. Who needs analog sticks and triggers?

The only system I don't have a stick for is the Saturn. Which would you suggest is best, assuming they are unmodified.

How was the Hori Fighting Stick SS before you modded it? How much of a difference can you feel with the HRAP2 buttons in it now? Do you think it would benefit with a different stick too?

Of the sticks I have, unmodified, I'd still go with the real arcade VF. Out of all the saturn sticks (unmodded) your only true choice is an import japanese virtua stick ("high grade"), but i'm sure those have all been around the block a few times now and could probably use at least new buttons.

In all honesty, the buttons totally sucked. The buttons from the HRAP2 are much better, or you could order sanwa's for about 3 bucks a piece (if you need to know where, PM me). Putting the new buttons in is pretty easy, allthough you have to basically make your own wiring harness for them. (I put up a tutorial a while ago in the hacks and mods forum) The joystick itself is alright, even if it is a bit small for my taste. I've thought about putting a new one in, but instead I just put in new microswitches since replacing the joystick would probably require removal of plastic from the inside of the case.

Re: new addition to (and the rest of) my arcade stick collection

I recently added a dreamcast agetec stick to my collection. It came pre-modded with a sanwa JLF joystick, but still had the stock buttons. So, I ordered up sanwa buttons (and an octogonal gate for the joystick) and modified the stick to accomodate them. I also threw new sanwa buttons and a sanwa balltop in/on my fighting stick ss, and put an octogonal gate and a new ball top on my HRAP2.
