Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Grimoire of the Rift

Post by Koopin_Krackerz »

I picked up this game last week to kill some time while on vacation this week and this game is really fun game to play. While the story is lacking, standard boy gets sucked in to fantasy world and doesn't want to leave, the game itself is really time sucking and enjoyable. I have put in nearly 10 hrs and I've barley scratched the surface. I do like the Bazaar system for unlocking new weapons to buy, it offers more gameplay and reasons to keep playing. I'm generally not a huge fan of RPG's, but this strategy based RPG is great and I'll probably keep playing this one till I beat it. Anyone else pick this game up?

I tried it and while I think it's good, you should definitely check out Tactics Ogre for the GBA. I'm playing through that again right now and really enjoying it. Even by today's standards it has a great deal of depth.

Hope it sucks less than FFTA did. And I have a right to bash a game this time because I paid full retail price for it AND I finished it.

I liked FFTA 1 myself, but it deserves most of the criticism it gets. I was disappointed to know that FFTA 2 didn't solve the two things I liked less - the Law systems (which honestly doesn't annoy me as much as it does most people), and particularly this system of learning skills from equipment... I haven't played FFTA 2 but I will probably get to it in a couple of years and will probably enjoy it anyway.

Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis, on the other hand, was just amazing, no annoyances, the skill system makes more sense and so do the classes (I guess FFTA's classes appeal a lot to big FF fans), with all the human classes and the "monster" races, instead of FFTA's different races with their own classes (not to mention, I don't think all those more niche magic users are adding that much to the game...)

For me it was just so much better than FFTA. I haven't played the original FFT, but I probably will prefer the "original" Tactics Ogre games from what I read about both.

Not to derail this thread into a Tactics Ogre love-fest, but I had forgotten how cool the emblem system in TO is. Not to mention the crazy level of depth involved with stuff like the biorythm and fear/support system. The training mode is awesome as well.

I've not played either of the Nintendo FFT series, but am having a kind of love / hate affair with FFT on the PSP. I do find this SRPG combat much trickier than the advance wars / fire emblem, where you appear to have more information about enemy untis and are thus able to calculate what moves will work. Can anyone give me some advice on what tactics work well on these games, I often end up waiting for the enemy to come to me in order to preserve a defensive formation using the landscape, but this isn't much fun. I'm also not too hot on all this job class business, not to mention the zodiac signs.

In FFT A2, the enemy isn't really all that smart. They usually go after one character, mainly a mage, and ignore others. Not too much actual tactics are used, but I still consider it a very fun and engaging game. If you really want a tactic game that has a smart AI, this game isn't it.
