Is it really so good? I once read the excitment to play the first eastern console rpg ever would calm down between the 500th and 700th random battle. Maybe I'll try it out, seen it often on ebay for 70 cents or so, which makes it really affordable, even with shipping from the US to Europe.

One of the very few traditional RPG's I've played and beat....in fact the only other one I remember is Golden Sun on the GBA!

The whole Dragon Warrior series has too many menus for me, although I did beat it. Leveling up is VERY tedious and you have to go to the first town to save and level up. I would recommend Final Fantasy over this.

Great game for its time, but man, it IS tedious by modern standards. What we call "grinding" today was called "the entire game" back in 1986 when DW came out.

I got my copy by subscribing to Nintendo power back in the day. I really enjoyed it at the time, but the towns people can be really annoying and wont move out of your way. The bad part is as soon as I beat it, the game stopped working. The same thing happend to the SUper Mario Bros. 3 cart my bother won from Nintendo Power. Maybe it was a coincidence.....or did Nintendo sabatoge us and try and force us to actuallty buy a copy?

Alll that being said....I prefer Final Fantasy and Metroid over Dragon Warrior any day.
