Hey sorry Racket and Marurun, I never did get a chance to finish that one. Family having babies does that...Well that and having damn near everything blow up at work.
To answer your question Ryan, MameUI does it spot on. Install it, throw the rom in the rom folder, audit roms, set your controls, and your good. If you want to enable a trackball it is right there as an option.

Can we play the Genesis Version?
I see there is a Genesis version. Can we play that? Here is what a website says about it:
"This game(Sega Genesis version) is the remake from the NES game Marble Madness. The interface was pretty much the same, although the graphics and music are much better in that there is more detail on the marble and the course, not to mention that the music is more grooving than the 8-bit sound from the NES game. This game is a fun way to spend hours just rolling around the puzzle course trying to get your marbles in the hole."

You can play whatever version you want. We just try to recommend certain ones...

As I mentioned in another thread - Staying arcade faithful (minus trackball
) - and running it on MAMEUI.125 (seems to work v.nicely with an analogue pad).
Just a bit of MM trivia (and I tried to confirm this on Wikipedia with no luck). I am SURE I heard somewhere that Mark Cerny designed the game as part of a competition run for the public by Atari (he wasn't an employee!) - and his prize was to have the game made!!!
Maybe apocryphal - but a good story all the same

I think there are various versions of this story. I'm sure the real version is:HOW wrote: Just a bit of MM trivia (and I tried to confirm this on Wikipedia with no luck). Mark Cerny was really good at playing games and pinball, won a few competitions so Atari hired him as a play tester but Cerny saw this as an opportunity to actually make games and started to learn to program. He picked it up incredibly quick and took the design lead on Marble Madness aged 18.
Cerny then went on to work on Sonic 2, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank amongst others – mainly as a design consultant – but that’s still a pretty impressive list of games.
