'no reason for a space channel 5 remake'
Tetsuya Mizuguchi says there is no reason for a space channel 5 remake. sad.
I may be weird, but i think that hdtv widescreen is a prefect reason for remakes of everything.

By that logic, there's little reason for a lot of sequels, but that hardly stops anyone....

Someone posted "Shenmue first!" in the comment box. Very good idea indeed. Think about it: a next-gen re-release of Shenmue in HD for download on X-Box Live!

I hate having to defend myself for having space channel 5 in my collection. People just go by the cover and assume its some barbie-like game, and I have to explain that it was $4, it had great reviews, I give practically anything a chance if it's quirky or original, and that I've actually never tried it so far.

I didn't read the interview since the link doesn't work for me, but what the hell is he talking about? He re-released SC5 on PS2 and GBA (edit: I suppose he wasn't involved with these decisions), so why not in HD? There is a sequel too, so he didn't feel bad about expanding the series before.
And what the hell about REZ? He was perfectly happy to buy back the licence for Rez JUST so he could update it in HD. And Lumines? Every Extend Extra or whatever the hell it's called? Lots of versions and updates.
Does he think the original will appear crappy? Did everyone throw out their DC copies of Rez when it came out on the 360? Of course not. I'm calling him a chicken. Step up to the mic, dammit, and serve us some Ulala.

I'm with Miz. REZ is an audio visual expiriment at heart thus a technology update really helped make it "better" Space Channel 5 will be the same game just with better resolution and new songs maybe?. I'd rather any company with that kind of originality quit building remakes all together. REZ HD is great, I would prefer a new IP that makes me forget about REZ because it is so amazing.

space channel 5 is great for nostalgia, but the rhythm game genre has progressed so much that the re-make would have to have a lot of new features to keep up. If not, people who have never played the first one will think it isn't very good. On the other hand, if they bring it up to speed it may loose it's congruity with the old version and old school fans may not like it.....
