Midnight Launch!!!

Post by peace4myheart »

For the first time ever, I went to Wal-Mart to try to score an MGS 80 GB PS3 Bundle at midnight and came away empty handed. I am just wondering if any of you have been to a midnight launch because you just can't wait to buy and play a game or perhaps because of a good deal. The last two midnight launches that I can remember are Halo 3 and GTA IV. Personally, I can wait till the next day to make my purchase for any game. I just really don't understand the point of midnight launches. Why couldn't it just be like Black Friday after Thanksgiving??? There wasn't any midnight launch until a couple of years ago.

I have only done the midnight launch for Halo 2 and 3. I just did it because I was still going to be up at midnight and just thought theres no point not playing it that night. Also, the midnight launches are kind of a fun party to b e involved in! Its a good time!

I usually reserve everything I want way in advance so I don't have to wait in line. Even if there's a line for people with a reservation, I'd rather just come a few hours after opening so I can just go in and get out ASAP.

But I s'pose if I had nothing better to do, sure, why not?~ I mean, I am a night owl anyways.

I sat in a Wal-Mart for twelve hours to get a Wii at midnight.

I'm really glad I had my DS. Of the first ten people in line, seven had a game boy of some kind or a DS. Whenever we got bored, we'd swap games with others.

Also, my mom brought barbecue. It was a good time.

I will never understand why people absolutely have to have a game/book/movie 8 hours sooner, after they've already waited months or years. Just seems immature to me. A small child should have that kind of impatience. Not an adult. I don't think I've ever been that excited about a media object. Everything can wait.

And for the record, does MGS4 really excite you guys that much? I've watched many trailers, and I just don't see the appeal. I'm not getting into the story at all. Too much of a family reunion thing going on. I also listened to the soundtrack and its the worst in the core series of 6 games, by a long shot.

Why would anyone want to sit outside of a store to pay the highest possible price for a product when it has the highest chance of bugs and the least development? Even if one's life was centered around games I'd bet that he has a pile of AAA grade games crying out to be played. Why not just spend that day in line at home with missed classics?

I feel like an angry old man shaking a stick at those ornery kids. I see the value preserving genuine excitement for new games, but I can't help think this could be tempered with a bit of patience and common sense.

The only time I ever took part in a midnight launch was for Super Smash Bros. Brawl tourney and launch at Gamestop. Me and my friends are all huge Smashers and decided to do it. It was ok, probably won't do that ever again though. It really wasn't worth it.
