Dreamcast 2D Platformers

Post by Geshmaal »

So, as we all know, the Dreamcast has a huge library of 2D fighters and shooters, but are there really any 2D platformers for it? I've heard of Napple Tale on the Dreamcast Imports page on this site, but otherwise I can't find anything. Is it simply the case that none were produced at the time? I know there were quite a few for the Saturn. Seems like I need a Saturn too if I want a full retro experience :P

I can't really think of any...
Actually, the Saturn and Dreamcast complement each other quite well -- you should really consider one :)

Other than Napple Tale, I really can't think of any. The Saturn does have a fair few though - Astal, Clockwork Knight, Mr Bones, Super Tempo, Tryrush Deppy etc to name a few.

Yeah, I will get a Saturn at some point, Dreamcast was just the cheaper and less time consuming option, as with the Saturn I'd have to go to the trouble of finding out which model it was, finding a place I can buy the best chip for that model, and then installing the chip itself. But it seems like the Saturn and Dreamcast together make for the ultimate retro experience with their collective libraries and the variety of genres and unique games on each console. Modern consoles need more variety! The Xbox 360 is all FPS, Wii is all party games and the PS3 is whatever is left over really, although it shares some of the FPSs with the 360.
