do you really completed your games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

do you really completed your games?

Post by jackspicer »

I dont know about you but when i buy a game i like to beat it utterly and completely as in: find all of the secret rooms, hidden items/unlockable rooms and items ECT... The other day i was talking to someone about Resident evil 4, i told him i had beat it 7 times. He asked if it was my favorite resident evil, and no it isnt, actually it's my least favorite. well why did i beat it 7 times you ask? i allways try to get all the neat extra features. you've got to beat once to unlock the extras, twice to get the P.R.L. 412 Plaga Removal Laser, beat the mercenaries with 5 stars with every character. I even Had to beat it once to get enough money to get the fully upgraded hand cannon. I think i actually had to beat it 6 times to get everything. I also played re2 with tofu, and got the gatling gun with gill in re3 and its also cool playing regina in re3, and finding secret rooms in return to castle wolfenstein was awesome, it was like shoot a picture of hitler and you get gold bars. the last game ive been doing this with is lost planet extreme conditions, if you wander around in the levels you find letters and compleat a word that shows at level selection page. And i dont know why. Anybody else feel this way?

I have many hundreds of games I never finished. Yes, that includes retail copies. Spending hard earned money on a game doesn't seem to give me any additional willpower to finish it. Most games just aren't good enough to finish.

I used to be that way, I felt that for the money I paid, that I just had to finish every one of my games to 100% completion.
More recently I just finish the ones that I feel are worth it and are really fun to play. After all, if you are not having fun, then why bother?

Yeah, the point when it stops being fun and starts feeling like a chore.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. Same here man. I estimate the total number of games I've beat to be less than 50, who knows how many I've started. Like 1 in 50 games grips me and makes me want to finish; the rest either suck, get boring a level in, or get repetitive half way in. The thing about being able to emulate and run ISOs and the like is I have access to thousands of games. If a game starts to get boring, there's not much to keep me from just going onto a different one. I've probably gotten 50% completed on at least 100 games; now they just sit uncompleted.

Finishing games

Post by corn619 »

I have a lot of games with maybe 40% of them finished. The problem is before I get a chance to beat it the next round of good games comes out. I just consider myself more of a collector than anything else now, especially since I don't have the time to play them like I used to.

I usually opt for the "play it until it become a chore" choice of play. Some games I do work through the grind if I think that things will get better as I progress etc. It really depends on the mood I am in and the sort of game I am playing.

For example, I have been replaying Syphon Filter 3 recently and I love this series but I wouldn't ever try to 100% complete it. The main mission is very uninspired compared to the older games and it is clear that little effort has been put into the mini game feature. As such I decided to not play through the game to that degree.

I have this mentality especially for RPGs, but with some other games as well. It is more like an obsession for me, and sometimes it does become a chore, which kind of defeats the purpose of the playing a game to have fun. Unfortunately, it is just the type of mentality I have.

Although before emulation, 100% completion was the best way to get replay value out of a limited selection of games. However, I do feel less compelled to 100% games that I emulate.

The worst of this obsession is when I play MMOs (although I try now to stay away from them).

alot of the joy I get is just getting the game to add to my collection. i do enjoy playing games through to their completion, though i tend to not complete them the second or third time I play.

I usually end up completing most of the games that grip me. Occasionally they fall by the wayside because my currently playing list normally has around 10 titles in it so somegames just get put to one side.

When I say complete, I mean that I I finish the last level not find every secret and every collectable/unlockable or whatever. Nowadays I've got that many games that I've yet to play I rarely revisit a game after I've finished it once. I'm really trying hard lately to slow down on the game buying becuase while lots of choice is good, I would like to sit down a master a game rather than just beating it and putting it away.
