24-Bit Console

Post by andymol21 »

I just recently posted my 100th post (yay!) which means that I was upgraded to 24-Bit status (yay agan!). But that got me thinking, didn't the console market just make the jump from 16-Bit (SNES/Genesis) to 32/64-Bit (Saturn/N64/PSX). Did a tiny amount of research and came up with nothing. Anyone got any 24-Bit consoles that they own and play and love that I just havn't heard about?

GB advance was considered a 32bit system, though it was probably closer to 16 bit

Yeah, I added the 24-bit status as a tribute to the Neo-Geo :)

I always found it funny they marketed it as a 24-bit system when it had the same two processors in it that the Sega Genesis has.

The Motorola 68000 and Zilog Z80 ( they were clocked nearly twice as fast, the system had more memory, and it could support larger ROM sizes and more colours and sprites on screen at once. Thus why it was much better technically then the MegaDrive).

but yeah the 24 bit comes from the 16 bit Motorola plus the 8 bit Zilog processors. Not actually 24 bit...

Well the Jaguar was marketed as 64 bit and it had tom and jerry. Granted the Genesis/Megadrive was the first to have high definition graphics...

Dont we all love marketing fluff?
