I'm sure that's a quality forum user in the brew, right there.

I might be wrong on this, but I've noticed something about the spam bots. They tend to register, and then wait quite a few days or weeks before advertising. If you get the time racketboy, you should just run through the list and delete the obvious spammer accounts based on their names and 0 post account. Then every three days or so, glance at the users who registered in that time and wipe out the obvious ones. I found it's just easier that way.

Yeah, its just hard to keep up with it.
It's kinda strange, cause there is a confirmation code to enter for registration...

I just cleaned up about 30 names and also added some user name filters and such.
It looks like bots create IDs and have their URLs included so the search engines will pick them up.
If you notice any others, lemme know...

What filters did you use? Did you find a list somewhere?

And they even get past the registration ID code process? Man, how can that be possible? I'm glad my forum is pretty much unused at all times. Just simple registration was all I needed to wipe out 98% of the spambots' attack.

Any and all phpbb tricks you learn regarding this stuff, please share with us.

I just noticed the words that were in the fake user names most often (different medication names, sex type words, stuff like that) then I put wildcards on both ends and hopfully that will cut down on some...

Oh ok then. I was wondering if anyone out there was putting together a filter list, like the AdBlock FilterSet project.
