sonic 3d flickies island

Post by silverback »

So I got a copy of sonic 3d for the saturn, played it.

Saw there was a megadrive version, so got that too.

Played it.

So the first thing I noticed was the FMV at the start, the ,egadrive version isn't great. However the game itself, its in all honesty just as good as the saturn!

i was frankly amazed at the quality of the megadrive version. The bonus stage is where you notice it tbh, the bridge megadrive stage is obviously less demanding of the hardware than the tunnel of the saturn would be but the actual levels themselves seem to be very close. I haven't played them all the way through so perhaps the later levels will show any difference up more.

So the way I see it sonic 3d is a marvel of megadrive development or a pretty poor saturn port!

Anyone else have an opinion on it?

Sonic 3D was a marvel on the Genesis, but the Saturn port was not supposed to take it to the next level. It's not a bad port, but its only purpose was to bring CD quality sound to the game, along with weather effects and much, much higher quality textures. I own both versions and the PC version, and I prefer the Saturn.

Been meaning to try this game out for awhile - I'm told the Saturn version cannot save though?

Yes, but all the versions are like that.
