replacing a genesis cart battery

Post by Hatta »

I have a copy of phantasy star 3 with a bad battery. The leads to the old battery are attached permanently. So I desoldered the whole battery mount, and tried to replace it with a low profile cr2302 holder (radio shack part number 270-0009). The pins on this holder are too far apart to fit in the holes, and the whole mount is too tall to fit in the cartridge case.

So what am I supposed to do? Just solder in some wires and tape them to the battery? It's probably not a good idea to solder directly to the battery right?

A lot of cartridge batteries are soldered in, so you could do that. Another alternative might be to buy a smaller battery bracket for a slimmer model battery.

couldn't you desolder the original mount from the original battery and use that? that's how i replaced the battery in one of my carts, and then used copious amounts of electrical tape to hold the mount and battery together.
