DS Flashcarts

Post by Pullmyfinger »

I'm planning on buying a new DS flashcart, but I'm not up to date on the new carts.

Back in the day I also used the M3 pro, but when slot 1 solutions became available, I got a M3 Simply and have no complaints about it, except that it doesn't take 4gb cards.

I now there most, if not all of the new cards have pretty much the same features as the M3 simply (Soft Reset, Toggle light with 1 button, clean ROM support and all kinds of media and PDA features I never use) and SDHC support, I'm most interested in that, price, no software to upload ROMS, the less menus as possible to get to the games and load times.

I'm interested in knowing about the M3 DS Real, Cyclo DS, DStt and any cart you consider worthy.

The place where I plan to buy has the following prices:

M3 DS Real - Rumble Ram Pak ....... $48
iTouchDS ...................................... $40
CycloDS Evolution...........................$53
DSTT.............................................$36
Supercard DS One SDHC.................$42
R4 DS ...........................................$44

Anyone know why there is a huge price gap between the DSTT and Cyclo DS?

Never even heard of the DSST

All I know is that the CycloDS is pretty much the most feature-rich card I've seen.
Some carts don't support things like being able to play single-cart wireless multiplayer and some require you to patch your games and homebrew before playing.

The CycloDS also gives you features like jumping out of a game to change brightness, change ROMs and other stuff without having to restart.

I don't know all the details about all the others, but I've been happy with it.
My only complaint is that the battery drains quicker with it than with retail carts.
I think that might be the case with all backup carts though....

Number 1 most important feature of a DS flash cart now is SDHC compatibility. You know how it is, one year 16gb Micro SD cards are the things of dreams, next people are handing them out free with a pack of cereal. I bought an R4DS and was stung by this, biggest SD card I can use is 2gb, which is just about big enough, but no more. I would reccomend the R4DS as it is a very good flashcart, but if I were you and it was my money, for future proofing I'd go for any of them that support SDHC.

Oh yeah, CycloDS supports SDHC as well :)
You'll fill up a big SD card quicker than you think.

Yeah, SDHC is one of the most important features for me, but I also don't want to be bothered with menus, especially touch screen menus

I've got an EZ Flash V, and haven't had any problems or anything. Download rom-load onto MicroSD-play. Bam.

Well, you're going to have to have some menus.
On the CycloDS you just have the main menu where you chose games/homebrew, video/music, or something else (settings?)
Then on the games/homebrew, you just select what you want to launch.

Personally, I would stick with the M3 for a little while. There are hardly any menus to navigate, the features are only there if you want them, and the updates so far have been pretty good. You might as well wait until all the new hardware being released is a bit cheaper, then picking the "right" device wont be such big a deal.

I love my M3, especially with the EZ flash 3-in-1 :D

I've been hearing great things about the DSTT, mostly that it's dirt cheap :), but also that it seems a great value for the money. I don't know about its SDHC support, tho. A few of my friends have just ordered them, and if the verdict's good, I'll probably be grabbing one myself. Anyone else know more about them?
