Another World/Out of this World
What a weird game... very weird. I tried it now I want to buy it but man is it really weird, but cool in its own way. Hard to believe it was done completely by one guy though.

Great game. Which version are you playing?
The "sequel" Heart of the Alien is good too (only on Sega CD), although the guy who made the first one didn't make this one.
Actually, I think the Heart of the Alien disc has Another World/Out of this World on it.
Although it really isn't related except for gameplay and a few strange references, my favourite is Flashback.

Yeah, then I definitely would recommend the Sega CD version over the Genesis. I remember an interview with Chahi where he wanted to do some cool stuff with the sequel but Interscope or whatever their name is basically said "F off dude, we want a resolved ending"Ivo wrote:Heart of the Alien does have the original in it.
It is a decent game, but not nearly as good as Another World. Eric Chahi (spelling?) wasn't involved in it at all, so don't get too upset if you don't enjoy the ending of that one.
Ivo.

in that case ill probably get Heart of the Alien but I almost just want to get the Genesis one as Im afraid I wont have the attention span to play both games, not because of length, they are appearantly short but Ive heard that you die COUNTLESS times on the first playthrough. I like a game that challenges me but doesnt make me die manditory deaths. Ill probably be able to hold on to the first one to finish but the Heart of the Alien i probably wouldnt be able to finish. Although I would be more motivated if it was an option for the next TogetherRetro installment...Ivo wrote:Heart of the Alien does have the original in it.

Weird and BRILLIANT!
Another World/Out of this World defined the cinematic platformer genre, near as I can figure. It's definitely true that the Sega CD Out of This World (I own it) contains both the original and the sequel, which the creator of the original had no part in. I haven't played through the sequel much, and I hear that the original is far superior, so if you can score the original cart for a decent price then by all means go for it and don't look back.
Flashback is admittedly a superior sequel (and one of the greatest 8/16-bit platformers in my humble opinion), but that doesn't change the fact that Out of this World pioneered this sub-genre, presented brilliant animation, and a very original story. The fact that one guy did it all? That's just insane. Insanely awesome. Go Eric Chahi!
I never heard that the game's creator was offering a high-def version from his website. Thanks for that info, I'm going to Google it right now!

i got the one off the website, basically you download it as a taster and then get a code emailed to you when you pay and you have the full game. Its graphically improved, not amazingly so but good enough.
I also have Another World on the megadrive (genesis) and Flashback.
Have Flashback on my Amiga as well somewhere.
Only played the pc one all the way though. Its pretty good, some of the sections are a bit annoying and you WILL die a few time sont he first play through.
Fade to Black on the PS1 is the sequel to flashback.
