Man, I wish they would bring back a good old fashion Belmont story. Soma Cruz, Alucard and Jonathan and such are fun but I kinda yearn for a classic whip wielding metroidvania. Eh, I'm still going to buy this and love the hell out of it though.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

I'll still play it and probablly enjoy it, hell it's Castlevania - but i'd kill for a new classic formula 2d Castlevania in HD via PSN or XBLA. I like the Metroidvania formula, but the fact is I haven't enjoyed any of the newer games half as much as Symphony of the Night and no Castlevania half as much as Super Castlevania IV.

You played the new psp one? Rondo of blood is said to be the best of the classic castlevania.

Yeah, the PSP one isn't half bad and I really liked the new graphics but the jumping seems gimped and more awkward than in the original (which can be unlocked along with Symphony of the Night). In Castlevania IV I feel like you have more control over the characters jumps, plus it has the 360 degree whip, crazy mode-7 graphics and my favourite score of all the CV games and as such remains my personal favourite.

I was acctually a bit annoyed the made a remake of Castlevania: Dracula X.
As much as I like the old stage-based Castlevania, SOTN just made everything soo much better with the "open world"-perspecrtive on the seires,
which made me enjoy every following Castlevania game after SOTN more than the classics. Made the Castlevania-reciept cooler.
(Metroid and Castlevania = More or less the same in gameplay after Castlevania opened up a little more)

So going back to it's stage-based roots was a bit dissapointment. Would've been daaaamn awesome with a fully fletched new Castlevania for the PSP.
Even if it wouldnt do the 2.5D graphics as Dracula X had, then just super detailed 2d sprites and animations would be awesome.
They could pull off more technically advanced 2D graphics on the PSP, and I'd LOVE to see it.

I am one of the few people who believe the Castlevania games are getting better and more refined since SOTN. At first, I never liked the introduction of exploring and items and stuff that almost everybody loves. Then the last one had a great balance of exploring and areas that felt like pure linear levels, also it didn't have useless or overpowered weapons, it was never boring, it had some really great magic abilities and I loved the two-character system. I am interested to see the direction for the new one.

Edit: I'm talking about PoR up there, not the PSP game which I haven't played.
