I know I don't have it spelled right. But it was a NES game. And one of the last I remember playing besides master blaster.
I'm starting to realize it was an unlicensed game as I can't find it on the "master lists" that are floating about.
The game was a RPG type game where you ran around in maze like conditions, fought easy monsters, then had instances with higher leveled ones. You slowly acquired more friends to help you in the battles, and better spells. There was a point where you had to go back in time to find one of those that would help you, and there would be an eclipse. If you planted a seed during that eclipse it would be a money tree when you went back to the future.
I know there were items to buy that healed/potted you up, and the game currency was "rupees".
I HAD this bloody game a few years ago, and traded it in for cash when I needed to make a house payment. Since I didn't have a NES anymore, and didn't realize they had removed the "suck" with the top loading NES2.
Any help would be great as my nights are now haunted by the idea that I never finished the game and that sad princess is stuck in whatever drab cell she's been imprisoned in...
Thanks!

I found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_of_Scheherazade
"The Magic of Scheherazade is a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, released by Culture Brain in 1989. It is the translation of the 1987 Famicom game Arabian Dream Sherazaado. The player attempts to rescue Princess Scheherazade from the evil wizard Sabaron, who has summoned the demon Goragora to do his bidding. The game was innovative for its time, incorporating elements of adventure and RPG styles."
and here is a shrine for the game: http://www.flyingomelette.com/mos/mosindex.html

I just happened to be looking for the same game myself. I used to own it when I was younger and my mother who sadly passed away in 2006, always remembered the name but I didn't. I had tons of fun playing this game cause I only had a few and my grandparents bought the NES along with the games which included this game. I'm gonna have to get it in ROM or cartridge form for nostalgic purposes.
