Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

racketboy, a new 101 topic

Hey racketboy, could you do a 101 guide for the 3DO, ill be glad to help in any way i can, i just feel the 3DO does have a historical place in gaming as the first system to really be 32 bit and produce decent 3D graphics.

i think its a good idea, a 3DO is something I want to add to my collection. Just tryng to get one for sensible money and good condition isn't easy.

Yea, i managed to pick one up with alot of good games (quarintine, road rash, nfs, hell) for 85 bucks but still expensive yea, the really hard part is finding a FZ1 w/ box which lucky for me came with the system too. I dont care really about the game inserts since they have a CD case anyway.

yeah, I was thinking of buying 3DO myself eventually, so yeah, that would make a good 101.

I agree. This is a system that is typically overlooked. I'd love to know more about it. This was a Trip Hawkins venture....

I'd like to see it too -- unfortunately my experiences of it are limited to the demo units I played in stores....
But if somebody else wants to put one together, that's fine by me :)

Is this true? I thought the Amiga CD32 came out before 3D0 (but 32x before both, no?).

the only reason I want a 3DO (although for me this is a pretty big reason) is Super Wing Commander

According to Wikipedia, technically the Amiga CD32 was released first in September 1993 in the United Kingdom and Canada. The 3DO was released in October of 1993. The discrepancy comes from a court injunction filed against Commodore in the United States at around this time, banning them from exporting anything to the United States, so the Amiga CD32 was never released stateside. Americans got the 3DO, so it was the first released here.

Ultimately, however, the FM Towns Marty is apparently the first 32 bit gaming machine, released in Japan only in 1991. Go figure.
