Looks like E3 could be the unveiling of Nintendo's solution to Wii owners' storage problems. Any guesses as to what Wii's memory storage solution could be? Enabling SD card loading? USB HD?http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/05/iwa ... es-po.html
Speaking to investors at a briefing following the release of its year-end financials, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata dropped what sounds very much like a hint at a future fix:
"Statistically speaking, it is true that there are a small number of customers who feel that the flash memory is too small, while many others find that they have plenty of memory," he said.
"However, because this small number of people are none other than the most avid players, we know we have to review the best possible solution to eliminate their inconvenience."
Emphasis mine. Sounds like they're working on something. I'm certainly glad they still see value in keeping their "most avid players" happy.
Iwata talks....So, what's Wii's storage solution???

They are closing in on two straight years of console sell out / shortage. Their past actions show they change nothing while what they have is working, so I do not htink we will see anything like this for another two years, if ever.
Let my legs shake me to sleep, and don't wake me when I sweat on my sheets.

I hope the new Nintendo will get around to it sooner than that. This will be a good test to see if the company really is ready to continue to compete for everyones gaming dollars, not just my moms. I for one would love some deep, innovative games that use the Wii-mote. There are some good Wii games, but nothing that even approaches what I imagined a unique title might do. Maybe 3rd gen software will start doing more.

If the option winds up being external HDD's. I hope you can use any usb drive. I have plenty of old externals lying around doing nothing.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I have a feeling it maybe to prevent piracy, same reason they wont release a driver for an external hardrive. A whole wii game wont fit in the internal memory but it could be made to boot from the SD card or a harddrive. I agree that Iwata does sound like he wants to do something about the problem though so heres hoping they will enable it and come up with some software that they think will stop the piracy problem. Whatever they come up with though will undoutably be broken pretty quicky though

The problem is that as far as we know, the SD slot in the Wii does not support High Capacity SD cards, which means 4GB and more. So the latter is most likely an impossibility, with the exception of a new version of the Wii.D.D.D. wrote:SD card loading is all I ask for. Well, that and the ability to use larger than a 2GB card... 8GB cards are so cheap now.
But I think another huge problem, past HDD/SD booting is the ability to manage your channels. We need a way to categorize the games we download. I understand Grandma and Grandpa don't, as all they bought was Sin and Punishment, believing it to be a read aloud bible, but the people who've bought tons of games want to have access to all of their games.
