Tokyo Bus Guide (Dreamcast JP)

Post by Guinness »

So I'm looking to add to my Dreamcast import collection and I been interested in Tokyo Bus Guide for awhile, but does any one actually have it and or played it? I see it's just a bus driver simulator, and as boring as that sounds I think it'll be fun to pull out and some random day. Is the game user friendly if you can't read Japanese? I seen video for it and it looks simple enough. If anyone who has played it can give me a review I'd love to read it.

I remember this one, I played it back in 2001. It wasn't that great, but it was sorta funny. Its a very "realistic" bus simulator, aka, its about as exciting as driving an actual bus. This is no Crazy Taxi.

If you have extra cash and get it for a good price, go for it, just to check it out for sh*ts and giggles. Personally, I would go for Lack of Love over this one though.

Yes! Lack of Love is high on my list as well, but very diffcult to find. When I do see it it's usally in the $80 price range, before shipping. But I'll get it eventually.

One question about Tokyo Bus Guide... Can you, say when you are on your route, get the bus filled with people, then drive it off a cliff? That would rule!

I have bought a copy a week ago on Ebay. Haven't played it yet, I think it arrives next week.

Pros:
- Easy to pick up, tricky to master
- The most relaxing experience to be had on a Dreamcast
- Unique and charming, a real Japanese curio

Cons:
- Not likely to fulfil your adrenalin needs
- With only 3 routes available the variety is over quickly
- The occasional AI glitches can really annoy

I've played this a fair amount recently. It's great...for some people like me. You will not be able to do anything crazy or out of the ordinary. It requires great patience and attention. I love how strict it is about enforcing the rules of the road...and many people do not like this aspect.

There's a training mode and 9 routes to be played in 3 different locations. If you don't understand Japanese, it is okay although you won't understand the little dialogs...but the menus are in English. Once you know exactly why you are losing points (the deductions appear onscreen in Japanese), the game becomes easier.

There is a faq over at gamefaqs...ummmm...here you go:

It really is meant to be a simulation of being a bus driver. For most people this is boring but I find it quite fun.

Thanks everyone for the replies and thanks to 3style for the review. After a bit more searching and finding out you can use a Dreamcast Steering Wheel I think I'm sold. Now I guess I gotta learn to drive on the left side of the road. :D
