Fatal Fury: MOW question

Post by nateup2 »

Got a question about Fatal Fury: MOW for dreamcast. I have been playing the Echelon .mdf/.mds self-booting cd-r version. I noticed that my dreamcast seems to be loading quite a bit while playing. I can hear the laser moving every time a punch is thrown. I just wondered if anyone who owns an original copy could tell me if this is normal or if it is a result of using the burned version.

I don't want to play it anymore if I am abnormally over-working my cdrom.

Thanks for the help!

That's how it is. The same goes for Last Blade 2. It will often fail to load the sound effects fast enough, and cause a delay in sound during the fights. I've talked to people who own retail copies and they claim the issue is still there. No way around it, SNK fucked up big time on these ports. It's basically a combination of the music being streamed rather than being sequenced like it was on NeoGeo, and from what I can only assume to be a far inferior sound caching system than the likes of, say, Marvel vs Capcom 2 or Capcom vs SNK 2. Those games had no issues like this.

Oh on MotW, I did hear that the problem is lessened by switching to Arranged music in the options, because that soundtrack is apparently closer to the physical placement of the sound databank on the disc, but I never tried this.

Thanks for the info, Ill try that with MOTW.

Its a shame to have these problems with such great games. Last Blade 2 is classic as well.

Yeah I remember that -- annoying as all get out.
Vampire Chronicles is like that as well.

Lucky I have an original copy of MOTW, which doesn't have this problem :)

Is it a certain import that doesnt have the loading problem? If not, im going to order a copy next time I see a good deal. I saw it for relatively on Ebay but didnt want to order it if it does the same thing.

I have MOTW and Last Blade 2, US release both. Neither have any loading problems whatsoever.

Play as a fast character or just get good at the games. Towards the end of most matches, you'll start hearing sound effects and battle cries getting delayed by up to 2 seconds.

How is the dreamcast version compared to the PS2 version, if anyone has played both??? I have the PS2 version and I don't notice any of those things mentioned in the DC version?

I would assume better in this regard, but if CVS2 and MVS2 are any regard, the sound quality might be cut in half. A common flaw with PS2 games.

Nope, not at all, never once, and I did indeed play both a bit. I usually played the monk guy in LB2 because I like the way his attacks string together. It sounds to me like there were some bad pressings of the game or something because I don't observe this at all.
