Best TG-16 (PC Engine) CD Based Games

Post by PhilExile »

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out what the best TG-16 (PC Engine) CD based games are, including Japanese imports (if they are playable for someone who speaks only English). I'm not a big fan of RPGs most of the time and if they are in Japanese I'm definitely not interested. However, anything else I'm into - shumps, platformers, etc.

If any of you have any suggestions, please let me know. Google has failed me thus far.

Also, now that I think about it, I've played most of the US card based games, but shunned the Japanese ones because I assumed they were unplayable. So if anyone has recommendations in that realm, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Top of my head: Ys I and II, Ys III (Both are RPGs, but they are really good), Dracula X, Lord of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Bonk 3, Super Air Zonk

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely try Ys, I've been hearing about that for years. I gave Bonk 3 a try and actually prefer the HuCard music to the CD. It seemed like they were trying too hard on the CD. :)

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!

Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder are indeed great, among the greatest. A couple other good SCD shooters are Star Parodia and Nexzr Special.

Super Air Zonk is weak compared to its chip sibling. But Dynastic Hero is good. No better than the counterpart game on the Sega Genesis, however.

If you get a CD of Y's IV (an ISO might work, don't remember) there is a full patch translation for it. Well worth checking out (even if it's just for the music... Y's is legendary for it's music :D )

And I know you're looking for CD games but be sure to get Blazing Lazers/Gunhed, and any of the Star Solider games (if you like shooters).
