Nominate Games For Together Retro

Post by racketboy »

Please nominate one game per platform (Dreamcast being the newest platform) that you would like to see featured on Together Retro.
Our goal is to play the best games that most people haven't played (or haven't played in a long time), so keep that in mind with your nominations.
Ideally, you should choose games that you haven't played yourself, but have wanted to.

I was thinking we need to do a shmup or an RPG next. I have a couple suggestions for both.

RPGs
Earthbound SNES. I haven't played this for a long time and want to go through it again. Its relatively short, alot of fun, the difficulty level is moderate, and it's easy to emulate.

Shining Force for the Genesis. Similar reasons to earthbound, but it's a bit tougher. It's revolutionary too. The first strategy rpg with grid battle system, which every other Tactics games seemed to emulate after.

SHMUPs
Axelay for snes. I own this game, but haven't actually played throught it. It is quite difficult, but it seems worth the challange.

Thunder Force III for the genesis. The only one of the series I haven't beat. This game really set the bar for fast paced challenging gameplay.

How about a sports title such as Virtua Tennis or Tennis 2K2? Or how about a good ole' football game like NCAA College Football 2K2? How about Sega Bass Fishing, plays great with the fishing rod peripheral. Or how about a driving game? But then sports games don't seem to be overly popular around here...

Re-volt rocks, that's more arcade-y than sports-y.

If I had any ability to play the game (got no rhythm) Space Channel 5 would be a hoot.

If I could ever find a copy to play, I'd like to try Stupid Invaders.

I'd like to get deeper into Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights but I doubt many of the rest of you could locate a copy.

How about D2? But I've already completed it once.

Typing of the Dead would be a great quirky one to try, but you gotta have a keyboard....

So, I vote for Jet Grind Radio, I've been wanting a reason to play the copy I bought a few months ago.

Just make it a game I already have, I haven't been able to play along in this club yet due to not having the games being played! (I don't play emulations.)

I was one of the ones that really wanted to nominate Jet Grind Radio, but I really play it too much to be interested in "revisiting" it ;).

I'll say D2 on Dreamcast, cause it's one of the games I own but have never played (and cause someone else on here already put that).

I don't think a Dreamcast title would be such a good idea, I understand that many great games are on that system but choosing one would alienate all the poeple who don't own and can't afford a Dreamcast. Really, I would like to work up the bit list (8,16,32...) before jumping up to the most recent "retro" console. So, my picks are as follows.

Metal Storm (Nes)
Marble Madness (Master System)
Earthbound (Snes)
The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening DX (GBC)
Blast Corps (N64)

Let's see...what's good...

G.I. Joe (NES)
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinestrals (SNES)
OgreBattle 64 (N64)
Bushido Blade (PS1)
Burning Rangers (Sega Saturn)
Pitfall (Atari)
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast)
Battletoads (Genesis)

Yeah, I don't know much about Sega, if you can't tell from my choices there. I do think everybody should try these titles, if only because the ones I've played amongst them are good. Unfortunately the choices suddenly hit me from time to time for what we should play, but these have all come as suggestions in my head in the last few weeks. Except Soul Calibur. Because everybody has played Soul Calibur.

Also, I didn't put Earthbound since everybody else seems so hellbent on it. I've got a few other games in mind as well, but I've already listed consoles they're on. Somebody remind me to suggest Star Tropics on the NES next time I'm asked.
