Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Rounding out my PS2 collection...

Post by Flak Beard »

This is my current PS2 library...

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Castlevania: Lament of Innocense
Dragonball Z: Budokai 3
Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII
God of War
God of War 2
Gradius III & IV
Gradius V
Half-Life
Ico
I-Ninja
Jak & Daxter
Katamari Damacy
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
Lumines Plus
Megaman Anniversary Collection
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Slug Collection
Odin Sphere
Okami
Ratchet & Clank 1 - 3
Red Faction 2
R-Type Final
Sega Genesis Collection
Shadow of the Colossus
Silent Hill 2
Silpheed
Sly Cooper 1 & 2
Suikoden III
We Love Katamari

I've probably owned 10-20 more games than this at one point, but traded them in somewhere down the line. Out of the 7+ years I've had a PS2, this is what I've held onto. There are so many good PS2 games out there though, I feel like I need to mix in some more to my library.

Any suggestions from my fellow gamers are welcome (especially some cheap Goozex ones). :D

These were both on other platforms, but if you haven't played em, I'd recommend:

Beyond Good & Evil

Tale of the Abyss is an awesome RPG. Really well developed world and story line. The battles are actually fun. You see the enemies like Chrono Cross, and then you actually have a real time beat 'em style 3d battle. You even have a 2 player option during battles and a friend can play one of your sub characters. The dialog can be really hilarious and there are tons of side quests, that are actually worth doing. I really got addicted to this one. I liked it better than all the Ps2 final fantasy games.

The battle system is kinda like Rogue Galaxy.....hey I'd recomend that one too. It's like a star wars type RPG in alot of ways. So mcuh to do it's overwhelming sometimes, but it's pretty fun. I haven't had time to finish it yet. If you like Dragon Quest VIII, it's from the same developers, Level 9. They also made Dark Cloud 2 which is also a pretty fun game. Alot of item synthesis on both of these titles but Dark Cloud 2 is more linear and has a city building aspect.

What about Viewtiful Joe?

Also I second the Red Star. One of the best 20 dollar games I've bought. And that's new!

You have all the games I want!!!
Gradius V, Katamari Damacy, and Metal Slug Collection.
I spent all my cash on Sega CD and Saturn games instead.....

burnout
dark cloud 2
freedom fighters
resident evil 4
beyond good and evil
psychonauts
metal gear: subsistence
god hand
haunting ground
rule of rose

I've noticed 3 things about the majority of games owned, especially on the PS2
1. games that have sequels
2. they are sequels to previous games.
3. or they are licensed, ala spiderman

Even in my list above four out of the 10 games listed fit the criteria given. I strongly urge you to look for those hidden gems and one off titles. They feel, often like the purest form of gaming. There is no baggage and it is often those games that take those risks to further the evolution of what a video game can be. Hopefully Racketboy will write the PS2 article at some point considering the system isn't producing many more titles. I just finished Okami and it was wonderful, in fact anything by Clover Studios is pretty clutch. God Hand is almost satire, really quite funny. I don't know exactly how much weight you can put behind anything at IGN but them seem to have a real hard on for Sky Odyssey. I have it but haven't put any real time into it however it does look a little dated even for the time it came out.

The GTA games are quite excellent if you haven't played them~ (I'm assuming you may have and traded them in afterwards.)
