How do you clean (the outside) of your old systems?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

So my Saturn is filthy and so is my N64, what do you guys use?

I want to get the dirt out of the crevices and make it look new again. Would you use Armor All on them?

alcohol/adhesive remover and soap. with q tips. i'd suggest to take it all apart, tho it's not a normal option with a 64.

Usually, I just dampen a dishcloth with a bit of water (maybe soap) and wipe down the console, and then dry it off with a second cloth. I'm not sure if Armor-All would be wise to use to clean a console, but then again I've never heard of anyone trying it.

I use baby wipes, they are only slightly damp so there is not real risk of damaging the electronics and they do a desent job of soaking up the filth

I wouldn't use adhesive remover on either of those systems, I used one called Uni-solve on a sports dreamcast (black) and it produced a nasty blotch of smooth on the system. Trust me, only use that stuff if you know exactly how it works. I always use alcohol now.

Definately do not use Armor All. It will leave an oily residue all over your system and if gets on your discs it will be a real pain to get off without scratching them. And avoid other solvents they can remove the finish and leave your nice and shiny Saturn dull and discolored in spots.

I would wipe it down with alcohol and a cloth first, then use....

To get in the small areas. Make sure it's a soft bristle too or you can leave little scratches. But I'd add just a touch of liquid soap without a scent to the water and only use a little bit of water in the brush at a time to avoid any leakage into the inside. Keep a rag handy and wipe off the area as you are scrubbing, and don't scrub too hard.

If you want to be really meticulous, take it all apart and use canned air to blow off the inside first. Watch out for getting dirt into the lens on the Saturn.

Use q-tips to get into the n64 cart slot and make sure to clear that out really well. You may want to place a piece of masking tape over the actual slot to keep the dirt from getting in. Oh yeah....this is a no brainer, but make sure you unplug them first!!!!

It discolored the system and removed the semi-bumpy texture that the Dreamcast had, leaving a patch on the top of the system that felt like it had melted and then cooled.

I can vouch for Goo Gone on a Saturn. I've used it. I let mine soak for a while to remove a particularly nasty price tag, so the surface was slightly oily for a while (it seems to be little more than citrus oil) but a lightly soapy paper towel, followed by one damp with water and finally a dry one will sort that out.
