So I've actually never played any Tomb Raider game before, classic or otherwise. I just noticed that the "Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy" is on sale on Steam right now for about $10. Should I pick them up for that price? I'm so out of touch with modern gaming, to be honest. But I've learned when Steam says a game has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews, it's usually not a bad game.
I guess I didn't ask the right question. $10 for three games is not a huge gamble, but I guess I'm more asking for people's take on the games. Are they worth my time? I never really gave them a thought before, but now that they are incredibly cheap I am wondering about them. Of course, the game trailers tell me zero about the actual gameplay.
I don't have a lot of experience with either series, but I kind of feel like the Tomb Raider reboot series is a bit like Tomb Raider reimagined in the form of an Uncharted game. So, I think if you've played and like Uncharted, they might be good games to grab. The main differences are maybe that Tomb Raider doesn't have quite as much running and gunning sorts of segments, and requires a bit more finesse in combat segments. Also failing the QTE segments in Tomb Raider regularly results in some pretty horrifically gruesome sequences. It's probably the thing I most dislike about it, personally, but especially if you have a weak constitution at all, I would maybe suggest avoiding it.
I definitely enjoyed my time with them. The first game is the weakest gameplay-wise, as there is very little puzzle solving available. The two later games add in a bunch more of the tombs to explore and solve ancient device puzzles.

I really enjoyed the first game from start to finish. I played through it twice, once on the PS3 and then a year or two later on the PS4. I thought it was a great change for the series.
I was really excited for the sequel, but then they announced it was an Xbox exclusive, which I didn't own. By the time it did come to PlayStation, I had moved on. Maybe I should give it and the final game a go some time.
Own: Sega Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360
Definitely worth the money and time. They are great third person shooter with some puzzle elements in the form of the tomb raiding parts. Not sure if the DLC is included. I think they come with cosmetic items and additional tombs. The second game I think had some story DLC too. Can't remember. Regardless, it's an easy buy for sure.
The gameplay is solid. I liked the puzzle solving with the tombs. Story bits form codex entries and flavor text from collectibles. Seeing Lara's story development was enjoyable. I liked the stealth elements. Bows are fun. Can be quite brutal, especially your death and kill animations. Upgradable equipment which I'm a sucker for.
Do the right thing, Ziggy.
I own too many hoodiesjackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!
