Bookbinder wanted - company or individual

Post by marurun »

I'm looking for an affordable bookbinder to bind 4 comics issues together in a durable hardbound form. HF Group is FUCKING EXPENSIVE. Does anyone know any smaller companies or individuals who do bookbinding?

It looks like my local bindery isn't accepting new work. But I clicked through a few trade association links and found Gabrielle Fox, a bookbinder based out of Ohio who does commissions. No idea what she charges but it could be worth reaching out to her.

I had a good guide, but the links were not working so my fallback is still good to go if you remove the necessary pages. This is a grey subject, so I will leave it to our awesome moderators to intervene if I flew too close to the sun here, but this is only a link to a link.
Blurb will arbitrarily print anything.
If you self published a compendium and forgot to include the pages in the beginning and just said complete - print it. They will do it as long as their limited scanners don't see isbn, copyright or other infringing things. You should really google the name of this printing company and verify that this still works.

I guess I spaced out about that bookbinding is a mechanical service and reprinting is a mostly digital thing until a request is made to create a new book.
My bad.
Probably should have my boots re-soled before I donate them.

Have you considered doing it yourself? If you're good at the arts and crafts type stuff, it might be rewarding. I've seen a few videos of people doing one-off hardcover bindings. You could practice on throwaway stuff first, like really cheap/common comics or even just magazines or something similar. Hone your skills, then do it for real. I've seen a few videos of the process before (I've considered doing something similar myself a few times) and it doesn't look too complicated.

I can totally understand if you're looking for a professional job though. I just figured I throw out the DIY option. Unfortunately, I don't think I can help with that. I do know someone that once self-published something, and the guy was looking to start some sort of indie publishing company in his garage. This was a few years ago though, I have no idea if he's still at it. I can ask, though.
