This is a new product that's being developed. In short, it's a cartridge that plugs into a SNES or SFC that allows you to use a MIDI keyboard with the console as a synthesizer. There's also a USB interface and a web app for more advanced features. Check out the official website and YouTube video (linked above) for more info. Pre-orders are open until 10/15/21, and they've stated that they will most likely only do a single production run. So if you're interested in this, get one while you can!
I built a Zynthian kit to play Soundfonts with ripped SNES and other game systems instrument banks. Not as cool as real hardware, but way more convenient...
If anyone wants a dump of my videogame soundfont collection, I can put up a link. Windows systems can easily install a softsynth driver to use sounsfonts in place of the default microsoft synth.
I received my Super MIDI Pak a few weeks back, and finally had a chance to test it out a little last weekend. I didn't do much with it, pretty much just plugged a MIDI keyboard into it to confirm that it works. I'll have to mess around with it more using the web app when I get some time.
