Ack, you've been found out

Post by Rydon »

So, not sure how many RLM fans are in here, and also not sure if this was already posted, but I was watching their latest Best of the Worst, and they watched a movie called A*P*E and low and behold the 30ft tall gorilla flips off the military in it.

Maybe you (Ack) already stated where your profile pic came from but I had no idea, and when I saw it I immediately thought of RacketBoy Forum.

Thanks for the memories

RLM is fun. I loved their review of Jack and Jill especially.

I actually never watched MST3K, but I know that they did an episode on Phase IV, and didn't say much while watching it. Probably because there was no camp factor in it and it is a legit fantastic film.

Oh no, it's A*P*E, the South Korean/American film that was timed to rip off the '70s remake of King Kong. The movie was released a little while after Jaws and starts with a guy in a bad gorilla suit wrestling a fake shark toy. It's an awful film but features some hilarious moments worth seeing, including the gorilla giving the finger.

Now if you want a better giant monster movie, see Pulgasari, the only North Korean movie worth watching (their action film Ten Zan is not good. Everything else is propagandistic drama). It also features a crazy production story involving international kidnapping schemes.

Is that North Korean film you are referencing still a propaganda film? I thought they had made some monster film like Godzilla, but the monster was corrupted by capitalism or something like that? Also, the screen grab is ALMOST identical to your profile pic ... so did you add the red shirt, or is are there variants of this movie out there?

It's just because it's from the season they were still on public access. Just getting started and without a large staff, they hadn't worked out the kinks yet and the commentary in those episodes is less constant than it was in later years.

Oh yeah, Pulgasari is still propaganda, but it ends up being about destroying corruption in the leadership and unwittingly ends up with a potential anti-North Korean government interpretation too.

And yeah, my old avatar was Dan Hibiki from Street Fighter. When I swapped to this avatar, someone edited the image to wear Dan's pink gi. Hence my avatar was born.
