About to beat Final Fantasy IV, any suggestions for next RPG
I am about to beat Final Fantasy IV Advance, does anybody here have a recommendation for a good retro RPG? I think by this point I saturn and playstation count. I just played Final fantasy tactics advance and final fantasy IV so I will give the final fantasys a break, but let me know what you think. Also after I beat whatever game you guys recommend, which is the better RPG, final fantasy VIII or IX?
Shining Force III
If you have a saturn (or can emulate it) and liked Final Fantasy Tactics even a little you should play Shining Force III next.
Earthbound?
That isnt the NES game is it? if it is, it starts really slow and I just couldnt get into it, I played for an hour and nothing really happened. Is earthbound the SNES version, that I might check out.
As for Shining force III, I started playing it, but I have that one in line for after I beat final fantasy Tactics advance, final fantasy tactics and the Japanese only fire emblem for gameboy (doubt that will happen, that game is impossible!), I might skip the japanese only fire emblem though. Like many strategy rpgs, a little to much story, especially since the english transations of part II and III do not exist yet, I was hoping to put off playing it until patches for those come out.

Dont like review sites much....
review sites rate on things I could care less about, like they will take a entire point off for bad graphics or if the game doesnt do much to further the series...if its got good gameplay and I can see what I am doing I am happy.
I never played Japanese RPGs much, and am just now getting into them, so I dont like reading reviews because they gave elder scrolls oblivion a 9.6 on gamespot, that game is really boring. I was playing Final fantasy IV on a gameboy and then I got home and wanted to play oblivion, and realized that Final fantasy IV, a game made in 1991 was more fun to play....and the GBA version only got a 8.3...Im all about gameplay and older games. Everyone said oblivion was the best RPG every made, its not.

Thanks Conn
Thats the kind of info I was lookin for, a list of the top RPGs for the different systems that have held up over time
That's your opinion. I played FF4 for 2 hours and wanted to shoot myself. Role Playing games should have Role Playing. Call me crazy.
Besides, those same reviewers you just trashed give the same insanely high scores to the same garbage Final Fantasy games you like. Sounds like you and them operate on the same page after all.

I struggled to list SNES RPGs since I never had a SNES and I don't really like emulating RPGs. So you could look around and find tons more.
Also, Star Ocean 1 is Japan only, so you'd need to download the patch for the ROM. And Golden Sun 1/2, despite being fairly recent, feel like throwbacks to SNES RPGs. I definetly suggest playing them.
