that new Wolfestein - free friend version?

I noticed that on the Switch eShop there's a free download of the new Wolfenstein, but you need some kind of Buddy Pass to use it? How does that work?

The free download is the game data, but you can't actually play it unless you're doing online co-op with someone who bought the deluxe version that has the "buddy pass." It basically lets someone who doesn't have the game play with you. I've got it on Xbox One.
