The Severe lack of good Import only Switch games.

Post by Dikdikvandik »

I like importing games. 3 of the 12 Consoles I currently have are Japanese consoles. But I've noticed since region locking was done away with, almost everything is released everywhere. Visual novels aside there's not a whole lot of really interesting Japan or import only games on Switch.

Interesting Japan/Asia only Swtich games? Well there's The Mediocre Fighting game Blade Arcus, The excellent M2 developed Darius Cozmic collection, DOAX3, and A new Super Robot Wars.

Mostly where the import scene shines is getting physical versions of Digital only games with out having to deal with Limited Run's BS.

Are the days of the game very few know about because it never came out here over?

This is a PS4 problem too, most of my Import PS4 games are shmups.

Wait, are you complaining that all the good games are getting released in all regions?

I feel like there's TONS of interesting imports. I don't know how many are digitally available in the US. But man. There's a lot of cool looking imports in my opinion.

Not at all it's just a double edge sword, we're getting more interesting things than ever. But the Import scene is drying up as a result so there aren't as many Ouendans and such anymore. Stuff that only a few people know about and have imported.

well like I said, I'm not sure which ones are on the US eShop, which seems to disqualify them to you?

It doesn't but I'm mainly looking for stuff you simply can't get in the west.

So they are better if exclusive and less known by being import only? This is being the hipsterist of hipsters for gaming.

I'd explore other system libraries for imports. It's great that practically every great title is localized nowadays (physical or digital). I understand the novelty but importing itself is not a good thing.

You're literally saying "almost everything is released everywhere. Visual novels aside there's not a whole lot of really interesting Japan or import only games on Switch" and calling it a problem: "This is a PS4 problem too".

I don't know how one is supposed to interpret it differently.

Are the days of the game very few know about because it never came out here over?

Speaking as someone who has, over the last 15 years or so, imported 500+ games in total for Famicom, PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii and arcade boards, while also having to deal with getting region-specific consoles or modding existing ones to be able to actually play the games: I would damn well hope so. Hooray for region free systems! Hooray for easy access to games I want to play!

Now I only import if I want to get a physical release that's only available in one part of the world, or if it has some region-specific things I want. Looking at you, Mega Drive Mini with Alien Soldier exclusive to Asian version.
