Have a look at one man's opinions:

Interesting read, but I tend to like the SF3 ones. Sure, they were different, but that was the whole point.
Totally agree on the Cammy clones though....

I have to disagree with quite a few of them. On the whole, I liked Street Fighter III's characters. Though yes, Twelve and Hugo did look rather silly. As ridiculous as Dudley looked, he's one of my favorites. Rather, I prefer him to Balrog. Also, I loved Karin. Hurray for counters!
I guess I liked that, in Street Fighter III, it was basically a "new generation" of fighters, with only a few familiar faces. Having a new cast just seemed, well..right to me.

My thoughts exactly. Except I kinda liked Twelve and I thought that even though I would never really play with Hugo, his inclusion was another nice nod to Final Fight.Chibbins wrote:I have to disagree with quite a few of them. Honestly, I thought Q was entertaining, if nothing else. Dudley too. But yeah, they did abuse Street Fighter III a good bit with the list. The entire series has some bizarre characters in it, right from the get-go. Don't just whine about the later characters, you gotta examine all of them. And when you do, you'll reach the same conclusion that I did:
Who cares? The games are fun.
Chun Li for the win.

Q was ok. Not the best and not the worst of the SF3 bunch.
And yes, you are right about the fun factor.
I have a ton of fun with Third Strike, so that's all I really need.
When I first played the original SF3, I was a bit disappointed that all my favorites weren't in it (much like the first Alpha), but I eventually learned to love it's advantages and learn a fresh crop of characters.
I hope SF4 has more new characters so I have a good reason to play it over the older iterations.
