I have a saturn (model 2 i think - with round buttons) that was modded to play japanese games. It was done by ncsx and there is a switch on the back to toggle. Now I want to play backup games, and I don't know how to do it. Can this modded saturn be modded? Is there any other way to play a backup game?
Thanks
Can you mod a modded Saturn? How do I play backups?

From what you're telling it looks like your console was only modded to change it's region and thus play Japanese games. In the Saturn the region-lock and the copy-protection are totally independent mechanisms, so one thing has nothing to do with the other. To answer your question, yes, you can install a chip to play backups, and yes, there's another way to do it. It's called the swap-trick. Search Racketboy's site to find more info on that.

your saturn is case/switch modified to play imports, but it is not chip modified to play anything burned. hmm i dunno, but disc swapping may hurt your SS i dunno. i'd like to quit that's why i want a chip.

There is no chip in there, or at least there shouldn't be, since the region mod doesn't require any chip, it's all made through jumpers I believe (never did it myself, but I've read about it).Rooster752 wrote:so I could install another chip to play backups even though there is already a chip in there? Does the swap trick really damage the motor or is that sorta a myth?
If you do the swap-trick right I believe that you won't damage your console. I've only been doing it for little more than a year, but I hear people claiming that they've been doing it for years and their consoles are still fine.

swap trick
Hmm.. interesting. you just use the swap trick method on the racketboy site? I might see if I can get a friend to help me mod it since I'm not so hot with the soldering iron. Maybe I'll rig it for the swap trick instead. You say if you do it right it shouldn't damage it, but..how does one do it "wrong?" vs. "right?"
thanks
thanks

Re: swap trick
Don't change the cd's too harshly, do it quick and as smoothly as possible. But hey, if you have the money to buy a modchip (they're not that expensive) and know someone who could install it for you (I hear that they require little soldering and are pretty easy to install) it's always better than using the swap-trick.Rooster752 wrote:You say if you do it right it shouldn't damage it, but..how does one do it "wrong?" vs. "right?"

okay cool.. thanks guys. Im going to talk to my roomate to see if he could help me solder. I know he has a soldering iron but I don't know how hot he is with it. it sounds like its pretty simplistic stuff though. Where do you guys get your games from? I only have a few saturn games (nights being basically the only good one) and don't want to pay huge prices for the big name games (radiant silvergun, guardian heroes, etc). Any suggestions on what to get and where to get them?
